Edward (Ted) Cassidy, IV Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2024.
Edward John Cassidy, IV, Ted as he was known to all, died on Friday, June 21, 2024 after a very quick battle with Pancreatic cancer. He was 65 years old. He left this life just as he lived his life ... fast. Ted was always on the go, "taking care of business," as he would say. Whether that "business" was gardening, building perfect bookshelves, refinishing wood work or mirrors, fixing anything that needed tending for anyone, coaching youth lacrosse, volunteering his efforts to any given cause, Ted was always the man one could count on to lend a hand. He was an excellent husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

Born on December 9, 1958, at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City, his family moved three years later to Montclair, NJ. He attended Montclair High School Class of 1977, University of South Carolina and Drew University. Ted was a proud Montclair resident until he and his wife, of 25 years, Renee, decided to check out SWFL in 2002 and have lived in Fort Myers, Fl for the last 22 years. They have raised 2 beautiful sons, Edward,V, 23, and John,(Jack) 21.

In 2005 Ted met Mike Reilly and the two of them noticed something missing in SWFL ... lacrosse. They started the first SWFL lacrosse league. Ted, with all of his supporters, persuaded the School Board to include lacrosse to be a school team sport. Now Lacrosse is played in schools all over the state of Florida.

Ted loving all water sports, a certified master diving instructor and lifeguard, had a true love for the sport of fishing. He was an accomplished and experienced angler. He could be seen casting on the beach in Bay Head, catching stripers in the East River, large mouth Bass in lakes, and snook off the shores of Sanibel Island.

Ted's life was full of love and laughter. A great sense of humor with the gift of story telling, Ted will be remembered for his smile, hardy laugh, and kindness.

He will be missed by friends near and far, old and new, Montclair and Fort Myers.

Ted was predeceased by his father Edward J. Cassidy, III and his sister Jill Cassidy Doelp. He is survived by his wife Renée (Goodsight), sons Edward and Jack, mother Joan Brandley, sister Cathy Obrien (Mike), and brother in-law Andrew Goodsight. He is also survived by many loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces.

There will be a memorial service July 18, 2024, 12:00 noon at the Bay Head Yacht Club, Bay Head, NJ. There will also be a Celebration of life August 11, 2024, 2:00 pm, at The Farmer's Market Restaurant, Fort Myers, FL.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ted's favorite charity St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
