Edward M. Warren

Ed was my favorite brother-in-law. The fact that he was my only brother-in-law never inhibited him from appreciating that distinction. Ed was also more like a brother to his nephew, Jarrad. Ed once took Jarrad under his wing for a thorough guided tour of the best that New York City has to offer, which is one of Jarrad´s favorite memories. Judy and Ed attended the wedding of Jarrad´s brother, Jason, in St. Lucia, which is not the end of the world, but can be seen from there.

Having played basketball for much of my youth, I was not especially fond of referees. But, in Ed´s case... I made an exception. He officiated a summer league basketball game during which I had to leave the court after spraining an ankle. Ed also left the game to help me. That wasn´t part of his responsibilities. He just did it because that´s the kind of person Ed was. Many years later, Ed asked my sister, Judy, to marry him. When Judy told our mother about one of Ed´s avocations, she asked with palpable disdain, "You are going to marry a referee?" But, after Judy told her that Ed was the referee who helped her son, she eventually came around to making an exception as well.

What I liked the most about Ed was his quick-witted and dry sense of humor. One of my favorite memories is a houseboat and water ski trip on Shasta Lake with Ed´s family and my family where many laughs and good times were shared by all. While my heart aches over his passing, I take comfort in having learned from Ed that not all referees are bad people. He will always be my favorite brother-in-law.

Mrs. Warren I am so very sad to hear of Mr. Warren's passing. My condolences to you and your family.

Although we knew you briefly, we became good friends and will be missed.
