We always called him Allan even though Im sure his first name was Edward. I went to school with him from the second grade through four years of college. We were in the same fraternity and shared many laughs together for many years; to this day I tell friends of mine how much fun he was and things he used to do and say. He was one of the funniest people Ive ever known. After he moved to California I lost track of Allan and I wished kept up with him. What a great human being.

An unforgettable memory of Allan was when he and Suzanne opened their home to me when I attended a Bill Gothard seminar in Redding for the week. We were eating chicken. As I was finishing dinner, he asked if I was done. When I said yes, he asked if I minded, and then proceeded to eat the remaining meat (and I thought grizzle) off the bones on my plate. I thought, "wow, now there's a guy that's comfortable with himself." I wondered if he thought I was wasteful. As I got to know him, I know this wasn't true. He had a very a way to make you feel cared about!

It's kind of funny that I have been rendered slightly speechless; really that is FUNNY! I know that Uncle Allan is laughing too. It's his smile that I remember most. My summertime vistis to Arcata are hands down my favorite childhood memories. Nothing compares. Y'all always made me feel very special. I never wanted those summers to end.
Sending prayers of peace and comfort on this day and for the days ahead.
With Love Always

Allan was such a fun, kind, caring guy with a heart of gold. He always had a big smile and was full of laughter. He entertained us with his stories and carried on conversations with my stuffed animals. He seemed young and healthy and I always thought he'd still be there the next time I went up to Redding. I know there is a lot more laughter up in heaven now. I just wish we could have enjoyed him down here a little longer...so we could laugh a little more.

You will be greatley missed...

Allan was such a loving, caring person. He loved his family very much and always put others first. He is a great example in our faith. When you hold the character of a person like Allan up against what this world tries to tell you is important, you clearly see the flaws, the utter vanity of this world's trappings. The last shall be first. Even now Allan is probably letting people cut in line cause he's not sure how he got to the front. It's just the way he always was. Allan was a father to me and when God gave me three wonderful children, Allan was a grandfather to them. Through Allan, God gave me back something I thought was lost. So many pictures of Allan in our photo albums, so many precious memories in our hearts... I am very thankful for the gift from God that Allan was in my family's life. He will be greatly missed.

I just always remember being excited whenever Allan would join all us for some library gathering or another. He had a great sense of humour, and he made made the time that much more memorable.

Allan's sense of humor is one of the themes running through the comments so far and we concur...whenever we would get together as families, no matter how long it had been, joking picked up where we had left off previously...with Allan's great laugh! Allan was a gentle man (as well as gentleman) and a wonderful brother in Christ. Our prayers continue to be for you both, Suzanne and Eric, that you will be flooded with the comfort and love of the Lord.
With our love and prayers.

Dear Suzanne & Eric,
My heart goes out to you. From the moment I heard about Allan's passing, my thoughts have been flooded with so many memories. Eric, you are right, your Dad was a multi-faceted man, loved by all who knew him. He genuinely cared about the people in his life, and it showed. His laugh was contagious. I feel so privileged to have had the friendship of all three of you all of these years. My prayers continue to go up for you. May God help you both adjust in the days ahead by speaking peace and comfort to your hearts and minds.
Blessings and heartfelt prayers to you.

We have had many wonderful times with Suzanne, Allan and Eric over the years... Camping at the coast, holiday dinners, Mexican Train. What great friends they have been! We joked with Allan about his running for office - city council, senator, even president! At some point he named himself "Al the Pal" and it stuck. We loved his sense of humor, kindness and caring. We will miss him.

I remember Allan as a man of prayer with a good sense of humor. One day after church in Arcata, CA, he was telling me about how he needed a pair of shoes. He prayed that the Lord would provide shoes for him and he got a great pair of shoes at an unbelievable price. He praised God for that pair of shoes! I was a young believer and it made a deep impression on me.

My mind has been full of wonderful memories from State Convention and other school times when Allan was there. His heart was always open and his sense of humor always ready for any of the kids lucky enough to spend time with him.

Dad had a sense of humor that was infectious. It often wasn’t what he said but how he said it, and the creativity that he brought to his impromptu stories. But Dad also cared deeply about many things and was a man of strong opinions. We would talk with each other for long periods of time, the conversation ranging from personal trials, laughter, problems of the world, silliness and numerous variations in-between. Dad put the people he loved before himself and many times individuals he barely knew. He was a man of great depth, and the more you knew him, the more that truth was revealed to you. He never achieved fame and fortune, and he won’t be included in the annals of history; however, he was a much better person than most who inhabit those ranks.
But more importantly, Dad was a believer in Jesus Christ. He was the strongest and most committed prayer warrior I’ve ever known. He believed in it, and his conviction was persuasive. When he asked about your problems, you knew that he wanted to know how you were doing and that he would lift you up in prayer. He was the most frequent Bible reader I’ve ever seen and was taping his worn Bible from constant use (you’ll have to ask me about Dad and tape sometime). He loved the Lord fervently, and he has gone home to his Lord and Savior.
Words cannot express how much we miss you, Dad, but we know that someday we’ll be released from time and will all be reunited once again and for eternity.

Dearest Suzy and Eric, I love you two so much. I loved Allan. He was my brother. The zaniest man I ever knew. I loved the way he was so kind to everyone and the way that he listened to God and Jesus first and foremost. I am so thankful that you were the family God made together. You are perfectly fit for each other. I hope you can hear Allan's continued love for you, because he does have that, and Love is never ending. The Creator mearly takes his voice away from each of us, and being his children, follow. It is only hard to get left behind. But left behind we are to follow God's voice another day and time. Don't let your hearts be broken. Ya'll had the best of marriages and families. Eric, most fortunate son. My sister is your mom. I love her always. We are geat sisters. Love her and help each other through these next days that will be most difficult. Lean on Jesus, for God is more dependable than any king or prince. You know this. Love you you both. Your sister and aunt Penny Haulman XXXOOOs.
