On April 14, 2014 Edwin Collier, 90, of Silver Spring, MD; devoted husband of 62 years to Ellen Clodfelter Collier; loving father of Stephen (Sandy) of Surry, ME, Martha Riva (the late Valentin Riva) of North Bethesda, MD, Sarah Munsey (Dan) of Philadelphia, PA, John Collier (Chris) of Vienna, VA and Catherine Fiorello (Dominic) of Cicero, NY; cherished grandfather of Peter (Pi) Collier and the late Andy Collier; Clare, Michael and David Riva; Laura, Lisa, Ginger and Julie Collier; Anthony, Nikky and Danielle Fiorello; dear brother of Shirley Kaplan (the late Harold) and Manny (Shirley) Collier; both of Silver Spring, MD. Ed was a practicing attorney for 32 years and a Maryland District Court Judge for Montgomery County for 25 years. Born in Millville, New Jersey in 1923, he was a graduate of George Washington University and its Law School, earning a BS degee in Accounting and a Law Degree. During WWII, he volunteered for induction on December 30, 1942 and served in North Africa and Italy, and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with a Bronze Star. He later served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and he was honorably discharged on October 7, 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Jewish War Veterans and the American Legion. He was also a past President of the Kiwanis Club of Silver Spring, MD.
Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 12 noon on Friday, April 18, in the Chapel at Riderwood Village, 3140 Gracefield Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20904. Interment immediately following at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA.
The family will be receiving visitors at the home of Martha Riva on Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Riderwood Benevolent Care Fund, 3110 Gracefield Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20904 or the American Technion Society, 55 East 59th Street, New York, NY 10022. Arrangements by Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Inc., under Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington Contract.
