As an alum from the class of '74 I knew John from alumni days. Fond memories of the open houses/cocktail parties at the Head's house. He had a great appreciation for the alumni.

As a frequent guest of the Effingers I loved John's pre-Board of Trustees meeting preparation routine: late night poker, scotch and cigars at the Head's house with Michael Winston, Neil Marcus and me.

With heartfelt sympathy on hearing the death of Edwin Effinger, the 5th headmaster of Wooster. I am from the class of '43, and had 5 wonderful years at Wooster.
Sincerely,

My love and condolences to all of E. John's family.
I will never forget playing poker at the Head's house at Wooster on snowy days off with each of the players wearing napkins on our heads, singing "I am a Sensitive Artist", and hearing E. John crunch on ice cubes. He was always fun to be with and a helluva poker player! I miss E. John and those days in the early 90s.

I was a student at Wooster School in the 90s when Mr. Effinger was headmaster. I will always remember his kindness, his charisma, and his sense of humor. My condolences to his family.

I used to run into John in the Clerk's Offices and Records Rooms often. Nothing I can say will make any of this less painful, so I'm just going to leave this short verse. It's a personal variation taken from my spiritual tradition -
The Circle of your Life is open -
But unbroken.
May the peace of God go in your heart.
Merry Meet -
Merry Part -
And Merry Meet Again.
Farewell dear Friend.

My condolences to the family. I have not seen John since Hamilton College in 1969 but always remembered him as a class act. Perhaps you had to be there in the 60's to grasp the full meaning of that phrase, but few Continentals are remembered with such an accolade.

So Sad, John was taken too soon. My husband, Frank and I spent many good times with John and Pam. John was very generous with his love and in reaching out to others. I first met John on a lovely Cruise-- Family Reunion. He had recently married Pam, our neice, and we were delighted to have him as part of our family. He certainly helped make that a fun time for all of us. I worked with John at Landmark Education, where he was dedicated to learning and helping others. We shared many fine dinners with him and family, I was always inpressed with how devoted John was to all the many people he loved. I felt a real connection with John and his passing is a huge loss.....Carol Board, Potomac, MD

My sincere condolences to all of John's family. John was a terrific teammate, a proud Continental, a frequent presence on the Hill ever since his days with us there. We will miss him greatly.
