Our dear mother, Eileen P. Clayton sadly passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 20th at age 87. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was always there when we needed her, she will be truly missed.  She had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Point Pleasant.

Eileen was born in Newark, her parents were James and Margaret O’Mara, the family lived in Maplewood before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1945. She then moved to NC in 2001. Eileen returned to her roots in NJ in 2016 to be close to family and friends.

Eileen was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1953. Retired after 25 years of service from Point Pleasant Hospital and was a member of St. Dominic’s R.C. Church in Brick.

Eileen is predeceased by her first husband James Edward Dowling in 2008, her son Steven Dowling in 2012 and daughter Dianne Cooper in 2015.

Eileen is survived by her three children:  James Dowling of Sebastian, FL, Lynda Murphy and husband Joe of Brick Township, Jeanne Crawford and husband Scott of Huntersville, N.C. and son in-law Bob Cooper of Brielle. Three sisters: Peggy Whelan of Palm Beach Gardens FL, Ann Bertolatus of Point Pleasant Beach and Joan Clark of Pt. Pleasant Boro.  Eileen has 5 Grandchildren, Shawn, Tommy, Nicole, Kaitlyn and Lauren as well as 5 Great Grandchildren: Zachary, Kendall, Jaxson, Fisher and Lucy.

A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday October 26, 2022, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral home 812 Arnold Avenue Point Pleasant Beach.  A Funeral Service will be offered also on Wednesday in the Funeral Home at 4:30.
