Eileen Simpson Elder was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Aug. 21, 1922. She grew up in Los Angeles, Calif., and then lived in El Paso for many years where she was married and raised four sons. In 1977, she moved to Dallas and married Jim Elder, subsequently moving to Hide-A-Way Lake where she remained until her death. She died on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, in Tyler after a short battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Elder; a granddaughter Naomi Van Haselen and a great-granddaughter Annika Van Haselen.

Survivors include her four sons, William "Sonny" Van Haselen of El Paso, Bruce Van Haselen and wife Cheryl of Lindale, Brian Van Haselen and wife Becky of Henderson, Nev., and Barry Van Haselen of El Paso; grandchildren, Jeremy Van Haselen and wife Rachel of Houston, Chase Van Haselen of Austin, Jason Van Haselen and wife Mari of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kyle Van Haselen of Scottsdale, Ariz., Tristin Van Haselen of El Paso, Tye Bragg and wife Leslie of Kansas City, Mo., Kimberly Werner and husband Neil of Houston, Amanda Deitz and Sean of Houston; and six great-grandchildren.

Eileen was an accomplished artist; she loved to paint and play poker; and in her younger days garden and play golf. She loved much and was loved by many. She loved to laugh and have fun, and she cared deeply about people. She had great peace knowing she was going home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701.
