Eileen Jacob Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2016.
JACOB Eileen Reichert Jacob, age 55, resident of St. Augustine, FL, passed on to return to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Mrs. Jacob had a 20 year career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the last 13 of which she served while also undergoing chemotherapy battling cancer. In 1982 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University and began her career as a state probation officer in West Palm Beach FL. In 1995 she was accepted into the FBI, began her training at Quantico, Virginia and was initially assigned to the San Francisco office where she was awarded Special Agent of the Year in 1998. In 2001 she was transferred to FBI headquarters in Washington DC where she was the Supervisory Special Agent for the Innocence Lost Program. For the past 13 years she has been assigned to the Jacksonville office where she dedicated her career to fighting human trafficking and crimes against children. She was again awarded Special Agent of the Year in 2014, after which she reluctantly retired due to declining health. Even after her retirement, she worked part time with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continuing her focus on child exploitation. She was a two time recipient of the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award from the United States Attorney's Office. She was also a member of the Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Coalition and was a subject-matter expert and frequent lecturer in the area of child and adult exploitation. Mrs. Jacob was directly involved in the establishment of the nationwide National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children training, as related to child exploitation. She was a pioneer in the area child prostitution investigations. Outside her professional career, Mrs. Jacob had a passion for serving God by serving others. She was a gifted artist and used her talents to encourage and lift the spirits of all those around her, especially those who were struggling with health or spiritual concerns. Her handmade quilts provided comfort to those in need both locally and in the international mission field. Weekly, three dozen or more hand-painted notes of encouragement were anonymously mailed for support. She was an active member of the fellowship at San Jose Baptist Church in Jacksonville, teaching Sunday School, and in the Wednesday evening Awana program. She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Randall Jacob, and her beloved 14 year old daughter Rachel, residents of St. Augustine, FL. She also leaves behind her parents, Wallace and Edna Reichert of Lake City, FL, her brother Richard (Jill) Reichert of Lake City, FL, nieces Katie (Jacob) Harer of Mansfield, MA, Molly (Nick) Ashur, of Washington D.C., Sarah Reichert of Jacksonville and Chrissie Reichert of Terre Haute, Indiana. Without a doubt, Mrs. Jacob is also survived by the truest of friends and an extended loving family in the Jacksonville area. A memorial service for Mrs. Jacob will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at San Jose Baptist Church, 6140 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Reed officiating. Visitors may greet the family in the Worship Center beginning at 10 a.m., with fellowship following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Mrs. Jacob's honor be given to San Jose Baptist Church or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 699 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. (www.missingkids.org) Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223. www.hgmandarin.com (904) 288-0025.

I just learned of her courageous fight for children being trafficked from a 48 hours profile of a child named Allisya, and her understanding of the plight they endure. May you know she is still an inspiration to all.

Rachel and Randall, I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of working with Eileen in San Francisco and at FBI Headquarters, Washington DC. She was a kind and generous person, and an exceptional Special Agent and member of the FBI management team. While assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit at FBI Headquarters, she conducted supporting research and proposed the creation of the Innocence Lost National Initiative described below.

In June 2003, the FBI, in conjunction with the Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, launched the Innocence Lost National Initiative. This combined effort was aimed at addressing the growing problem of domestic sex trafficking of children in the United States.

In the 13 years since its inception, the ILNI has expanded to 74 dedicated Child Exploitation Task Forces composed of more than 400 law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S. These task forces work in tandem with U.S. Attorneys Offices and the FBIs Office for Victim Assistance.

To date, these groups have worked successfully to rescue more than 6,000 children. Investigations have successfully led to approximately 2,500 conviction and 30 life sentences.

Eileen's professional work with the FBI made a significant positive contribution to the lives of countless children victimized by violent offenders. She is a tremendous role model for anyone hoping to make a contribution to society.

I was saddened to learn just this past weekend of Eileen's passing. I only met her last year when she became my quilting teacher. She was so soft spoken and generous, a true lady. It had surprised me when she told me of her work with the FBI. Sending my deepest condolences and prayers to comfort you in your loss.

Today, I was just admiring the beautiful quilt that Eileen gave us as a family before we left Jacksonville to move on to Canada and then I saw this shared obituary online. My heart aches for Rachel and Randy... your family far and wide will be covering you in prayers as you press on through this journey together. I take comfort in the though that the warmth and love she so lavishly gave is being reciprocated in abundance but in a heavenly way - just like her quilts that I hear she has blessed so many with - now she is clothed in splendour, whole and healed in her heavenly Fathers presence as His arms blanket her whole being. Sending much love from Roger, Lynne, Mareena, Gabriella and Abigail

Eileen was a lovely person. For those who knew her, she exemplified reasons FBI agents are called "Special" Agents. She was intelligent, funny, gentle, and kind...unless you were a child abuser, then May God have mercy on your soul. You will be well and truly missed Mrs. Jacob.

Mr. and Mrs. Reichert, I am so sorry to hear about Eileen. We had great times at church and working at PS Baptist. God greeted her with opened arms and thanked her for giving of herself for Him. Next to Him was Mother w/ some chocolate chip cookies and sour dough bread and a big hug. May God surround the both of you, Richard, Jill, Eileen's husband and daughter with His love.

Eileen was my hero. She was one of the hardest working and passionate people I have ever met. She never complained and was always there for me with kind and warm thoughts. She truly made a difference in this world. She was a true friend and I will miss her and our common love for animals. Randy and Rachael you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Randy and Rachel:

No words can describe how we feel about the loss of Eileen.

She was an incredible woman for sure. She was extremely gifted, loving, caring, driven, and compassionate. But, she was also the strongest person I've ever seen both spiritually and physically.

As a devout Christian, there's no doubt God has already put her to good work up there in Heaven helping other people. :-)

I'm thankful to God that Sharon and I got to know you guys when you moved to SJGCC nearly 12 years ago.

May God continue to watch over you both. Time and prayers definitely help with the healing process.

Please let us know what we can do to help now and down the road. We're here for you.

We love you both,

Brent and Sharon Brown

Eileen was a warrior in the truest sense of the word. She not only fought a courageous battle against cancer but against evil in our world. Her work for women and children and against human trafficking was incredible. She never complained and was always kind, caring, and compassionate. I was a receiver of her caring notes following the unexpected death of my husband and it always lifted my spirits to know she was there helping me through a difficult time. Her quilts were perfectedly done and beautiful to behold. I was lucky to have her as a friend. The world has lost a shining light. We will miss you. Nancy Wines
