BURGLINGTON - Roger H. Degen, 73, died Friday, November 24, 2006, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center in Racine. He was born May 27, 1933, in Burlington to Carl and Emma (nee: Rueter) Degen D.C. He was a lifelong resident of Burlington. On May 25, 1957, he married Romayne Lois at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster. He spent his early life in Burlington and attended St. Mary's Grade School and High School and Gateway Technical Institute. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Roger worked as a Mason for Ed Rueter Construction and then as a Sales Representative for Weather Shield Manufacturing. More recently, he was a Courier for First Banking Center. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington, served on the church Board of Consultants, was Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee and a member of the Church Building Committee after the fire. He was serving as Sexton of St. Mary's Cemetery. He was a member of the Round Table at Catholic Central High School. He was a member of the VFW and the Burlington Lions Club, where he was a Transporter for the Eye Bank of Wisconsin. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed golf, travel and he loved spending time with his family and friends and especially with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Romayne Degen of Burlington; children, Bob (Carol) Degen, Kathy (Greg) Pieters, Donald (Diane) Degen, all of Burlington, and Jeff Degen of Wind Lake; grandchildren, Sarah Degen, Ashley, Kyle and Eric Pieters, Kristen and Brian Degen; siblings, Mary Bradley of Neenah, Joan (Edmund) Durand of King, Richard Degen of Waupaca; brother-in-law, Stanley (Lucille) Lois; sisters-in-law, Mary Lois and Kathy Haserman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Sally Degen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Cordella Lois; brothers-in-law, Loras Bradley, Charles Lois, Thomas Lois; and sister-in-law, Jean Degen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Joe Debski, officiating. Private burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Tuesday from 4 until 6:30 p.m. at the church.
