Elaine T. Sachdeva (Fazel), 67, passed away on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in
Manhattan, Kansas, following a four-year battle with cancer.
Born in Concordia, Kansas, on January 18th, 1957, Elaine was the fourth of six children in the family of John E. Fazel, Jr. and Arlene Fazel (Trembly), and their youngest daughter.
Elaine's most fond childhood memories included summers spent on her grandparent's farm in Concordia with her siblings and cousins and Christmas holidays spent celebrating with family.
In 1977, Elaine moved to
Manhattan, Kansas, and started her life in her new home as a kitchen manager at the K-State Student Union. It was there that she met the love of her life, her coworker and eventual husband, Ravi Sachdeva. Ravi was also new in town, having just arrived from Delhi, India, with his parents and brothers, and the two became inseparable.
Elaine and Ravi were married on May 29th, 1982 and would welcome two children, Jesse
(born 1985) and Amanda (born 1991).
Following the birth of her children, Elaine would go on to complete her associate's degree at Manhattan Area Technical College in 1992 and join the Sachdeva family business, American Pest Management, Inc., eventually serving as the company's Chief Financial Officer from 2002 until her retirement in 2021.
Elaine was very supportive of her children's activities, serving as a leader in both the Boy and Girl Scouts and chaperoning many softball, volleyball, and rowing trips.
An avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Elaine grew up watching the team with her grandmother, Nellie Trembly, and took great pride in sharing that passion with her children.
Elaine and Ravi also greatly enjoyed hosting tailgates and attending K-State football games with their friends and employees, seeing this as an extension of the family environment they sought to build at American Pest.
Elaine enjoyed doing crafts and creating art that she could share with others, and she passed this passion for creativity down to Amanda. Elaine also passed down a love of live theater and movies from her mother. Elaine and Jesse would frequently catch the latest new releases together and shared a deep love of movies.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her elder sister Cynthia Hunt (Fazel) and her beloved husband, Ravi.
Elaine is survived by her son, Jesse Sachdeva, of Prairie Village, KS; daughter, Amanda Sachdeva, of New York City, NY; sister, Linda Fazel; brothers David Fazel, Mike Fazel, and Thomas Fazel; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
