Elaine Summer Whitesides

Elaine S. Whitesides ORANGEBURG Elaine Summer Whitesides, 93, widow and beloved wife of James William Whitesides, died Monday, December 1, 2014. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Washington and Effie Creech Summer of Columbia. Mrs. Whitesides was a member of Orangeburg First Baptist Church where she served for 40+ years in the 3-year-old kindergarten class. She was a loving mother to her five sons and grandmother to her 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her third son, Jack Wayne Whitesides. Survivors include James William Whitesides, Jr., Jerry Woodrow Whitesides (Linda), Mrs. Paulette Whitesides, Joseph Wesley Whitesides (Teresa) and Jeffrey Warren Whitesides (Jennifer). Pallbearers are Doug Whitesides, Kevin Whitesides, Jason Whitesides, Chandler Whitesides, Frankie Shipley, Sam Neal and Steve Summer. The family will receive family and friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, SC, with the service following at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel. A private burial will proceed in Memorial Park Cemetery, 2720 Broughton St., Orangeburg, SC 29115. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1240 Russell St., Orangeburg, SC 29115.
