Elaine Wynn, one of Las Vegas's most influential business and civic leaders, died April 14, 2025, at the age of 82 in Los Angeles.
Born Elaine Pascal, Wynn met her future husband, Steve Wynn, while attending George Washington University. The pair co-founded two major hotel and casino empires, Mirage Resorts and Wynn Resorts, helping reshape the Las Vegas landscape with such properties as The Mirage, Treasure Island, and Bellagio.
Wynn is also remembered for her passionate dedication to art and education. She amassed one of the world's largest private collections of art, served on the board of trustees of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and acted as co-chair of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She also founded the Elaine P. Wynn & Family Foundation, which pursues education initiatives in Nevada, and served on the Nevada State Board of Education.
Numerous appreciators have been honoring Wynn's memory on social media. Entrepreneur Elizabeth Blau praised the example Wynn set: "I would not be the woman, the mother, the philanthropist or the entrepreneur I am today but for the wisdom, generosity and indomitable spirit of Elaine Wynn," she wrote on Facebook. "You emblazoned a path for all women in Las Vegas and you inspired us all to be better!"

My name is Chef Maurice and I indirectly dealt with Elaine Wynn through one of her charities during the Pandemic. She financially supported the meals to the elderly for some years. It showed she had a caring heart and consideration for the less fortunate. She will be remebered for a long time and not forgotten. I send my deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Elaine Wynn was a great Lady, surprisingly accessible and extremely gracious. Her love of art, design and architecture was breathtaking and permeates throughout her properties. The first thing my wife and I would do upon arrival at the Wynn hotel is pour over the pages of Wynn magazine, then, after an exquisite lunch, stroll between the Wynn and Encore admiring her unmatched style and exquisite taste in floor designs, carpets, furniture, fixtures, lights, drapes, mirrors, taking in all of it with eye popping delight. I corresponded with Elaine only once to thank her and Mr. Wynn for providing us with so many cherished memories at their resorts over many years and was floored when she graciously responded in kind. We will truly miss her. God bless you, Elaine.

Elaine and I met when we were one of the first young couples of Las Vegas. It is incredible to see the impact that she has left on the city, there are very few class acts like her. I will never forget a trip that Steve and Elaine joined my husband, John and I to Bermuda. We had a grand old time, it was during the opening of Bellagio. She was very proud of the building and what it had become very few people could put up with Steve shenanigans, but she always did it with grace. The Las Vegas art museum will continue your legacy, my dear.
