Eleanor Ballance Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2025.
Eleanor Mooring Ballance, 86, of Fremont, NC joined the church triumphant on January 28, 2025 surrounded by her family at her home. Eleanor was born September 25, 1938, to the late Tobe and Bertie Blow Mooring. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Willard Ballance, and her siblings: Leroy & Eunice Mooring, Chester & Marjorie Mooring, Evelyn & Harold Hooks, Neta Mae & John Elmore, and Frances & Rudolph West.

Eleanor is survived by her children: Faye & Frank Davis, Todd & Deborah Ballance, & Elizabeth & Todd Rose. She was a proud grandmother to Brandon & Kali Davis, Lindsay & Daniel Collins, Brittany & Bobby Schroeder, Morgan & Shawn Bomar, Katlyn & Eric Schmidt, Anna & Garrett Shivar, Amber Rose, & Landry Ballance. Her love extended to 13 great-grandchildren: Peyton, Graham, & Aubrey Davis; Elijah & Lucy Collins; Katherine Schroeder; Addy & Emory Bomar, Kenzie, Henry, & Colby Schmidt, Caroline & Ava Shivar. Eleanor is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

A member of Fremont United Methodist Church, Eleanor founded the 50 Uppers group and the senior citizens' dinners. Eleanor was hardworking and contributed to her community as an American Red Cross volunteer, participating in school and blood drive activities. As a farmer, she was a passionate advocate for farm education through the Wayne County Farm Bureau's Women's Committee.

Eleanor loved her family deeply and they knew it. She lovingly rocked and cared for each of her 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was her family's greatest cheerleader and she showed her love through the many homemade meals she prepared often with a child at her elbow watching and learning. She had a servant's heart and for many years gathered family and friends, alike around her large kitchen table for a home cooked meal. The love that she shared with her family lives on beyond her.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Melissa Whiteside for taking such good care of Eleanor. It meant so very much to us. Thank you also to the staff of 3HC and the wonderful care offered by hospice.

A funeral service will be held at Fremont United Methodist Church, 106 North Sycamore Street, Fremont, NC 27830 on January 31, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ben Van Staalduinen and Rev. Lindsay Ballance Collins. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00PM to 1:30PM in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Fremont United Methodist Church, 106 N. Sycamore St. Fremont, NC 27380 or 3HC 2402 Wayne Memorial Dr. Goldsboro, NC 27534.

I offer my sincere condolences to the Ballance family. I first met Ms.Eleanor when I was around 12 years of age. She was such a sweet and loving person. I have spent my hours with her and her wonderful family. Some of best days of my youth was spent working along beside her and her children, nieces and nephews. To Faye, Elizabeth, and Todd, my God continue to bless you with all of the geat memories that were shared through her lifetime of commitment to raising her family with Godly standards, and that a little hard work never hurts anyone. God bless you all during your time of bereavement.
