Eleanor Marchetti

Eleanor (Assante) Marchetti, 86, of Newington, much beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Tuesday, (July 22, 2003) at Hartford Hospital surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Anthony, who adored her; two daughters, Josephine Marchetti and her companion, Samuel McClendon of Newington and Yolanda Greene of Baldwin, NY; a son-in-law, Peter Papadopoulos of Windsor; six grandchildren, Jill Accarpio and her husband, Dan, Peter Papadopoulos, David Papadopoulos and his wife, Lorely Peche, Mark Papadopoulos and his wife, Stacy, Melissa Greene and Cara Sharpe and her husband, Brendan. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Michael, Miguel, Elena, Melina, Nicholas and Victoria. She was the grand matriarch of the family, loved to cook for everyone and never missed an opportunity to brag about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had spirit and will that her long illness could not touch. She is also survived by three brothers, Stephan, Michael, and Giacomo Assante and his wife, Barbara; three sisters, Gloria Orefice and her husband, Anthony, Virginia Byrne and Lydia Joity; and a sister-in-law, Etta Assante; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 9:15 a.m. from the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at the Church of Holy Spirit, Newington. Burial in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours are Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friends wishing may send contributions to a charity of donors choice.
