Eleanor Marie Murphy

Eleanor Marie Murphy, 85, peacefully passed away on July 25, 2023 with her loving sister, Patricia Wecht (Griffin) by her side. Eleanor was rightfully born on Christmas day, 1937 to Patrick and Margaret Griffin in Brooklyn, New York. Eleanor was predeceased in death in 2007 by her loving husband of 40 years Robert F. Murphy (retired FDNY) and her dear brother-in-law Bernard "Bernie" Wecht in 2016. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Margaret Murphy (Scott), Ellen Ellis (Rob), and Robert P Murphy (Kristen). Eleanor is also survived by her beloved grandchildren whom she was extremely proud of, Murphy, Lily, and Griffin Ellis, and Katherine and Kourtney Murphy. Eleanor thoroughly enjoyed her retirement from Ramapo Central School District (25 years) and teaching CCD for 30 years in Sloatsburg NY, and Delray Beach Florida. She loved her time volunteering at the local Food Pantry and Delray Library as well. Eleanor leaves us all the better, as she always put others first, with complete selflessness, kindness, and gratitude. Eleanor was a great listener and was known as the peacekeeper in her dinner group, she embraced her Irish sense of humor and love of laughter with a quick joke or obscure reference.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 22nd at St Francis Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local Food Bank or to Trustbridge hospice of West Palm Beach, Florida.
