PARK, Eleanor Mary (née Smith)
Daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend to so very many. Passed peacefully on November 18, 2014, aged 89. Beloved widow of Robert George Park, cherished mother of Ian (Cheryl), Colin (Kathy), Margaret-Anne and George Park; loving grandmother of Jaslyn; honoured "mother-by-choice" of Deanna, Rick, Michele, Gordon, Martin, Jim, Bev, Peter, Sheldon, Chris, and many others; beloved "Grandma Mary" to Gabriel; dear friend of dozens of others. Supporter of many community organizations and charities; fan of Atlantic Voices: the Newfoundland and Labrador Choir of Ottawa, and Les Chanteurs Stairwell Carollers. Retired Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Mary was an outstanding nurse as her first great adventure and an extraordinary mother as her life's avocation. Always a generous person, she donated selflessly to a number of charities throughout her life. This giving spirit carried on right to the end, as she donated her body to the University of Ottawa School of Medicine, in order that students could continue to help others through their learning. Many thanks to all the people who have supported us the past year, especially the nurses from Paramed (particularly Liliane), the personal support workers from St. Elizabeth and VHA, and the wonderful staff at the Ottawa Hospital (General campus, particularly the staff on 7 and 8 West).There will not be a funeral; instead, there will be an informal Celebration of Mary's Life in the summer of 2015, at a time to be determined.
