Eleanor Phyllis Romano, 98 of Cheshire, passed away on Tuesday January 16, 2024, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden she was the loving wife of the late New Haven police officer Carmine T. Romano. Eleanor was born on September 28, 1925, in New Haven and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Basta) Renda.

Eleanor led an active and fulfilling life. After completing her education and earning her High School Diploma, she embarked on a career as a dedicated school bus driver. Her commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children made her an irreplaceable asset to the Laidlaw Bus Company.

Aside from her work, Eleanor found joy in various activities. She was an active member of the Cheshire and Prospect Senior Centers and cherished the friendships she made there. Eleanor's love for music and theater was a significant part of her life. In her younger years she acted in many shows at various local theaters. As a founding member of the Cheshire Community Chorus, her melodious voice and talent brought joy to countless audiences. She also dedicated her talents to the St. Thomas Becket Choir, where she was a faithful Communicant for many years.

Eleanor had a passion for bowling and camping and was an avid reader. These activities allowed her to connect with friends and family while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Eleanor will be deeply missed by her loving daughters Carolyn Buffinton and her husband George of Prospect and Marilyn Modzelewski and her husband Eugene of North Branford, and her beloved brother Alfred Renda of Southington. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her adoring grandchildren: Rebecca Roy and her husband Brian, Jennifer Yokley and her husband Kevin, Christopher Modzelewski and his wife Yomaira, Sarah Modzelewski, Gregory Modzelewski, and his wife Enkela, and her great-grandchildren: Griffin, Eleanor, Madelyn, Samantha, Carmine, Isabella, Mia, and Lucas and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Damian and her brother Anthony.

Eleanor’s family would like to thank Dr. Gerard Fumo and his staff at Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at The Hospital of Central Connecticut as well as Dr. Maria Stack and the staff of Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville for the wonderful care and support that they provided.

Funeral services in celebration of Eleanor's life will be held on Monday January 22, 2024 beginning at 9:15 a.m. from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 South Main Street and proceed to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish/St. Thomas Becket Church 435 North Brooksvale Road in Cheshire for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.  Prayers of committal and interment will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery in Cheshire. Friends may gather at the funeral home on Sunday January 21, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Damian T. Romano Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Webster Bank 145 Highland Avenue Cheshire, CT 06410. Find out if pre-planning is right for you.
