Eleanor Chabala Schofield passed away Saturday at the age of 91.
Born in Tresckow, Dec. 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Anna (Pollock) Rovnack. In her younger years, she was a member of the former St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Tresckow, where she played the organ.
Eleanor was a 1948 graduate of Hazleton High School and in July 1950, she married Andrew Chabala, also of Tresckow, and the two moved to New Jersey not long after.
While in New Jersey, she raised two children and pursued a career in accounting. In 1992, she was widowed when her husband Andrew died of cancer.
Years later, in 1998, she attended her 50th class reunion and was reacquainted with her old classmate, Albert Schofield of White Haven. The two married a few years later.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her brother, Michael Rovnack; and sisters, Mary Puskar and Rita Kish.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Ann (Chabala) Doyle and her husband, Curtis; son, Kenneth Chabala and his wife, Lorraine; granddaughter, Andrea Houstoun; and grandsons, Douglas Houstoun and his wife, Stephanie; Matthew Chabala and his wife, Kelly; and Ryan Chabala. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Jace Chabala; Julian Houstoun; and Justin Houstoun; and is also survived by sister, Anna Marie Fidishin and her husband, Thomas; and brother, George Rovnack and his wife, Dorothy. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Krapf & Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 530 W. Butler Drive, Drums. The Rev. Ric Polmounter, of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Conyngham, will preside.
Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tresckow.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and again from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday.
Donations in Eleanor's memory to a charity of one's choice are welcomed by the family.
