ELEANOR SLYKER

Eleanor Slyker, 86, of Kissimmee passed away on December 2, 2011. She was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on September 12, 1925. She was married in 1948 to John Slyker, who predeceased her. She earned a Master of Arts from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her passion was teaching German in the public school system. On moving to Florida, she served various departments within the County of Volusia. After her retirement, she was an avid volunteer in schools, family court, and environmental/naturalist causes. She was an avid reader, bridge player, traveler, and canoer. Mrs. Slyker is survived by her son, Jonathan Slyker (Michelle) of Montclair, NJ; daughter, Susan Slyker of Winter Park, FL; brother, Walter Sorg (Vivian) of Whitehouse, NJ; grandchildren, Leigh and Ynes Slyker of Montclair, NJ; and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Kissimmee, FL.
