Elinor Miller

With love in our hearts, we announce the passing of Elinor Miller. Born 1932 in Queens, NY, to Sarah and Harry Cohen. Ellie grew up on 188th Street in Jamaica, Queens near the love of her life Paul Miller who she married when they were 21 years old. Ellie graduated from Queens College. She and Paul raised three children, first in Framingham, Mass. and then in New Rochelle, N.Y. Ellie and Paul were deeply in love, which was evident to all who knew them. Ellie devoted many years to the League of Women Voters of New Rochelle, spending countless hours advancing its mission. Ellie was brilliant and courageously built an impressive career at a time when women's options were limited. She spent two decades at Sarah Lawrence College as an Administrator in the department of Human Genetics. When she and Paul moved to the Upper East Side, Ellie joined Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as Director of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, where she worked until her retirement. After suffering the loss of her love Paul, Ellie continued working and enjoyed travel. Her happiest diversion was making frequent visits to play with her five grandchildren. Ellie was an avid gardener and baker, enjoyed the theater, music and museums and loved baseball, particularly when she could play it in the backyard with her grandchildren. Elinor is survived by her loving children Alan (and wife Pat), Lisa, Joanna (and husband Jonathon), grandchildren Adam (Sarah), Jacob (Eric), Zachary, Benjamin and Samantha, and great grandchildren Levi and Adrian. Funeral services will be at Star of David Memorial Chapel in West Babylon, NY on Sunday August 13th at 12:00pm. The Jacobson's will be sitting shiva at their Boston home on Sunday evening from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm and Monday 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
