Elisabeth COMEAUX "COMEAUX" COMEAUX

NORTHFIELD - Shirley Comeaux, 94, of Northfield Minnesota, took her final breath on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023. Her daughter and family who had passed before her were with her to send her off into her new blessed home.

Shirley Evelyn Hall was born April 22, 1929 in Waterloo Iowa to Neva Thelma Garrick and Oscar Cyril Hall. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Hilliard Comeaux, her mother and sisters, and is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth Comeaux (Dan Dressen), son, Garrick Comeaux, and numerous loved nephews and nieces.

Shirley received a B.A. from Minnesota Bible College and when the majority of her credits did not transfer, she started another B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in Elementary Education. As she and Hilliard traveled for his ministry and furthering college education, she continued hers as well, providing the primary source of income for the family as a teacher, but also earning her M.S. and Ed Specialist degrees, both from Fort Hays State University (Reading). Both she and her husband returned to college for one more degree, and at 54, earned her Ed. Doctorate from the University of South Dakota (Early Curriculum and Instruction).

Shirley loved storytelling and was a prolific writer of both fiction and non-fiction. She also loved music, participating in a Shirley Sextet in college (yes, all named Shirley). Family genetics rendered her legally blind in 2012 due to Macular Degeneration. Shirley was grateful for the Society for the Blind here in Minnesota and the organization's support with assistive equipment and occupational therapy. She rarely complained of her diminished sight - and if she did - it was followed with how blessed she was to live in a state where services like this were available.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11:00am in the Chapel at Northfield Retirement Community, 900 Cannon Valley Drive, Northfield MN.
