Elizabeth Argott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2023.
Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Argott of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023, with family surrounding her.

Liz was born on June 11, 1939 and was the loving daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Hauch. She grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey and had many wonderful memories, which she loved to share with friends and family. Every summer her family would go to the Glimmer Glass Bay on the Jersey shore, and it was there she began her love of the beach.

As was a graduate of Teaneck High School, she continued her education at Trenton State in New Jersey. Liz was a member of the Sigma Gamma sorority and earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1961. Since age three, Liz knew that she wanted to be a teacher, and she was able to fulfill that dream. As she put it, "As a toddler, I loved babies and "little" kids. Not much has changed in that regard."

She began her teaching career in New Jersey as an elementary school teacher and when she moved to Brandon, Florida in 1972, earned her master's degree at the University of Tampa and continued to pursue her teaching career. She taught special education for many years in Hillsborough County and eventually moved into Administration, retiring in 2003. She sold her home in Brandon and moved to her home in the King's Point community in 2004.

It wasn't long before Liz became involved in the Grantham Association and the Greater Sun City community. She was President of Grantham for many years, leading the community through roof replacement, painting and many landscaping projects. Her guidance and knowledge will be greatly missed. Liz also volunteered for Samaritan Services for many years, being a member of their Board and working as a dispatcher in the office. Liz also served on the Federation Board for four years, one year as Secretary and three years as President of the Federation Board. During her tenure on the Board she managed the administrative work of the Board. Her direction and administrative skills helped the community understand the role the Federation Board played.

Among the wonderful things Liz was involved with was her close friendship with her card group. She went on many trips with them and dearly loved her trips to St. Petersburg Beach one week in June each year. They will greatly miss her (as well as her Chocolate Chip cookies and New Jersey potato salad!) when they do their Beach week.

Liz raised four beautiful children whom she adored. She was so proud of them and enjoyed spending time with them and their children. She is survived by her son, Graham (Laurie) and their son Connor; daughter Lauren and her daughters Nadine and Theresa; son Kevin (Nancy) and their children Bianca and Zane; Brad (Johnie) and his son Brandon (great grandson Ayden) and his daughter Miranda.

When asked what she would do if she had any "free time," she replied, "I love my children but if I knew what fun it was to be a Grandmother, I'd have tried that first!"

"Lively little Liz generates her own brand of vitality which everyone knows and loves. In her spare time, she loves to listen to Frank Sinatra's records, knit, read, sew or swim. Zany humor, a sincere desire to help others and a natural charm will make her a top-notch kindergarten teacher. [She was involved in] Student Council, Student Service, Girl's League and Class Cabinet." - from her high school yearbook.

Services will be held in Sun City Center, FL, on Wednesday, 8/16/2023: Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church followed by a viewing at Sun City Center Funeral Home, with a Reception to follow at the King's Point North Club.

Liz has requested that in lieu of flowers, please donate to Samaritan Services in King's Point in Liz's name.

I knew Ms. Argott as the Director of Early Childhood, Hillsborough County Schools. Liz was a wonderful director, she truly cared about the needs of the children and families we served. Rest in peace my friend.

My grandmother was a kind, loving, and intelligent woman. She always had a smile on her face and a warm hug for me. I remember spending many happy evenings with her in her living room, playing along with the contestants on Jeopardy and listening to her stories. She taught me so much about life, and I will always cherish the memories we shared.

I will miss my grandmother dearly, but I know that she is in a better place now. She is finally at peace, and she is surrounded by love. I will never forget her, and I will always be grateful for the time we had together.
