Elizabeth Lorraine Walsh Beelman, our beloved "MeMa," passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on January 12, 2015 at the age of 94. A native of New Orleans, Elizabeth was adored by family and friends and was an inspiration to others for her joie de vivre. Elizabeth was a devoted mother and grandmother; she also spent over 20 years working in Tulane University's Howard Tilton Library. She shared her love of New Orleans and especially Mardi Gras with her family and many friends at the Andrew Jackson Condominiums. Elizabeth was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin Franklin Walsh and Lola Burke Walsh; husband, Everett Irving Beelman; sisters, Mildred Walsh Klein and Claire Walsh Lancaster; brother, Benjamin Franklin Walsh, Jr.; and grandson, Eean Alexander Beelman. She is survived by her two children, Lola Beelman Reese (Gordon) and Everett Walsh Beelman (Michele); her grandchildren, Everett Irving Beelman II (Melanie), Sylvanus Gordon Reese III (Christy), Erik Ralston Beelman, and Elizabeth Reese Sower (Aldridge); her great grandchildren, Tyler Hodge Beelman, Teagan Walsh Beelman, Sylvanus Gordon Reese IV, Carter Lee Reese, and Aldridge Reese Sower; and her sister, Helen Walsh Long. A private ceremony for the immediate family will be held on January 15, 2015. The Beelman and Reese families would like to thank Mary Cardy, Mary Marti, and the entire Ameracare Family Hospice nursing team for their attentiveness and loving care. In lieu of flowers make donation to Care Alliance Foundation, 303 West 21st Ave, Covington, LA 70433. Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. Dear Beelman and Reese families-
We are so incredibly sorry to hear of the loss of sweet MeMa. She was such a great friend to my grandmother, Doris. "Moms" always described her as being the most hilarious, happy, positive, and friendliest person she knew. She felt so fortunate to have such a wonderful friend in her life and said she could certainly light up a room and make anyone that she came into contact with smile. I know they're now enjoying cocktail hour together at their new condos in the sky...at least the men will be able to join in now ;)

Last evening as I read the Advocate my eyes caught the picture of a beautiful lady who did not look like someone who had lived 94 years.
