I miss her. Just found a piano book she gave me when I became a mother to give to my child and it warmed my heart.

I was in the choir at Gladwyne Elementary school from 1970-1972. She inspired my love of singing. One year we studied the Hallelujah Chorus from Hansel's Messiah and I'll never forget it

I just recently heard of the passing of Elizabeth. Although I never met Elizabeth, I was a colleague of her husband Warren at Haverford High School. I hope the family and friends of Warren will provide him comfort through this difficult time.

I have such fond and happy memories of Mrs. Brodt from long ago days at Gladwyne Elementary. She was the most delightful music teacher, surrounding her students with warmth and love as well as the joy of music. We had so much fun in choir, at talent shows, the school play, and in music class being introduced to Carnival of the Animals and The Sorcerer´s Apprentice. Mrs. Brodt and Miss Steuer, who often accompanied, were always enlivening the instruction with silliness to spark our imagination and curiosity. I have never forgotten the rhythm exercise they created when I needed help playing the claves: "Bar-ba-ra Browne, ta-ta!" Now that I am a musician myself I am extra grateful for her generous, inspiring example. Thank you for the music, Mrs. Brodt!
My heartfelt condolences to Warren, and I hope that Gladwyne Elementary will be memorializing her.

She will for ever be Mrs Brodt to me. My Music teacher when I was at Gladwyne, Violin and piano private teacher. She inspired me to keep pushing my limits. I remember a lot of the antics she and Mrs Cooper (Gladwyne's amazing librarian) would be coming up with. Always "punny." One memory stands out clear, on Halloween, the two of them came in dressed up as skunks and squirting perfume in the air saying "Pew! What is that smell?" Cracking jokes with the students. Other times, I always knew I was on to something when it came to violin lesson, She would strain to keep her smile. A twitch of the corners of her mouth and the questions that would lead to the final conclusion of my thought process and she would shout "YES!" Do an energetic wave of her hand of joy, her smile bright and her eyes alight when I followed through on my conclusion.
The grueling work that lead to the my 5th grade talent show complete with Mrs Brodt's piano accompaniment. Even later years when she knew swimming was my heart and joy, just could always turn that same passion into violin....for a brief while. Even now, with my teaching swim lessons and swim coaching, I can still feel her standing behind me with twitching smirk on her face. Although my own swim students don't know it, but a lot of my own teaching style is influenced by Mrs Brodt. I'll probably never come to a pool in a skunk costume, but I've been known to try to hide my smile and guide students to their own conclusions.
Thank you Mrs Brodt for all your teachings. You are and will always be the best teacher I ever had

I am just finding out about Liz's passing and am speechless and heartbroken at the same time. I met Liz over 50 years ago as a new member of the Main Line Symphony Orchestra, and a few years after that, we became stand partners and friends. She always had a smile and a positive outlook and always knew how to brighten the day with her quick wit. I looked forward to rehearsals in part because I knew Liz would be there and we could make music together. The world is a quieter and more solemn place without Liz, but I am so grateful to have known her. There are many, many hearts in which she will continue to live on, and these memories with serve to comfort the many. Someday, we will meet again, Liz! I'll bring the duets :)

Rob and I feel truly blessed to have had neighbors like you and Elizabeth. You both were always there if we needed anything: a noise in the middle of the night (you came over to check things out if Rob was away), a tool (better than home depot) and learn a musical instrument (Elizabeth was there- even in a pinch).
Robby remembers playing piano for Elizabeth, her delicious Christmas cookie bars and he loved that she was Phillies fan!! Deanna will always remember her piano lessons (and a quick tutorial on violin before a concert) and the confidence Mrs. Brodt helped to foster. Deanna said, she was the first person to ever tell her to stop apologizing so much - a lesson she thinks of daily! I remember when Ryan was very young he saw someone playing piano on TV and said "I can do that!" He knew Elizabeth taught piano and he waited by the door for hours until he saw her pull in the driveway and happily scheduled his first lesson. Ryan connected with Elizabeth right away and was always excited to have his weekly lessons. Now, I always think of her when he plays the piano knowing she would be so happy that he continues to play anytime he gets a chance. I was always so impressed with the comments Elizabeth made not only about how the kids learned piano but just how well she got to know each of their unique personalities. I loved talking to Elizabeth after each lesson. She was always so kind, witty (always made me laugh), insightful and inspirational.
We were already so sad to move away from the Brodt´s just 6 months ago and we are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of Elizabeth. We are grateful for the years that we lived next to Elizabeth and Warren and so happy we got to sneak in some extra time with them at Nudy´s right before we left.
Warren, we are only a phone call away and we will help in any way we can just like you and Elizabeth were always willing to help us!!
Love- Rob, Pam, Robby, Deanna & Ryan

We are truly heart broken. Liz was a source of energy that could brighten any room and we feel so grateful to have had her in our lives. Every time we had the pleasure of being with Liz we were constantly enamored with her wittiness. She was such a genuine person who we could always count on to have a good time and have a lot of laughs with, no matter what.
We shared so many good times with you both. Some of the treasured memories we have are experiencing your impressive and elaborate tailgating skills at Eagles games, hearing stories of your experiences at good old Radnor Crossing, and hearing about all of the adventures you embarked on and the vacations you took together.
Of course there are other memories, I´d rather not mention....like when Denny threw a ball and shattered the windshield of your brand new car... But, even then Liz remained calm, cool, and collective. You both truly are the epitome of what a loving, happy, marriage is supposed to be...Having the best time of your life with your best friend!
Our favorite memories were always made on Easter. It was such a joy to spend that holiday together and we looked forward to it every year. Liz was always so generous to Ellia and always brought her the most thoughtful gifts. She will treasure all the special gifts from "Aunt Liz" forever.
In celebrating the wonderful and irreplaceable person Liz was, we wish you our deepest condolences and hope that you know we are here if you need anything at all.
All our love,
Denny, Jess, and Ellia

Thanking all of you who are responding to my loss and honoring Elizabeth´s memory with your kind words. A story along those lines:
We were dining at the old Guard House in Gladwyne, restaurant of the rich, famous, and athletes.
(Somewhat redundant at times.) We were early, as usual, and decided to have our cocktail at the bar while we waited for our table. We had our Beefeaters straight up and were sitting at the end of the bar, farthest from the door. They were the only seats available at the time. The other seats were filled with a group of Gladwyne´s volunteer firemen, who traditionally stopped in for a beverage after a call. Winter coats were their attire. We were face to face engaged in conversation, Elizabeth was facing in the fireman´s direction. We glanced at the bar and were amazed!! There sat two more glasses of gin sitting on the bar in front of us. We looked at the bartender and he pointed to the MAN sitting next to us... We turned to thank him with questioning looks and he said "No.. thank you Mrs Brodt, I was in your third grade music class and I loved it very much so thank YOU!"
Who remembers their third grade music teacher and recognizes her a couple of decades after you were in their class? It is an example of the profound impact she had on the people she touched.
Some said "She adopted them first and taught them music second. Thank you all again for your many kind words and pictures that you shared.

From the time Elizabeth taught our son music at Gladwyne Elementary School, she sensed his musical talents, even though he was hearing impaired, and encouraged him to play violin. She taught him until high school graduation. During those years of lessons, she helped me resurrect my own piano skills. She and I spent more years together in long, joyous sessions filled with chatter and laughter-and even some piano playing. We swapped stories of friends and especially family. Elizabeth was so intimate with all the assorted characters in my large family that she´d ask particulars about cousins, aunts and uncles whom she never met. Elizabeth was part of our family.
Elizabeth was a champion-a champion teacher, musician, and friend. Not only did she excel in these roles, she rejoiced in championing others. She cheered your accomplishments, grieved in your sorrows. She could spy vulnerabilities, hesitations, and then lift you up, because a champion not only excels, but defends the honor of others.
Here´s to the dearest champion of us all.

Mrs. Brodt taught me music at Gladwyne Elementary and privately for many years. Her kindness, humor, and love of music are things I have remembered all my life. She was so fun, like when she would say words backwards like "licnep". Mrs. Brodt affected my life so positively as I know she did for many others. Rest In Peace

Love...There is no better word for me to use when I remember Liz. Whether it was teaching, leading, encouraging or disciplining, it was always couched in love and for the benefit of the recipient.
Liz was an excellent teacher of children and adults, and a teacher-of-teachers as well. Her enthusiasm was contagious, her professionalism was to be emulated, and her dedication to guiding and stimulating people to do their best was exceptional.
I was blessed to be a part of the Gladstone Elementary School staff, and to learn what a love for teaching looked like from Liz Brodt.
Thank you, Warren, for sharing Liz with us, and may you experience the love from God and others as you grieve the loss of your loved one.

Liz -Beth ...
It all started in 1970 at Radnor Crossing Apts in Radnor , Pa. ... 52 years ago ... when a group of newly married couples discovered that the one thing they all had in common was a zest for life and
adventure ... At the very center of all of this was Liz-Beth and Warren who managed , along with input from the whole group , to organize activities that included everything from lawn parties to car rallies to gourmet meals to a community newspaper to trips to various sporting events and spontaneous pool parties ... There was never a dull moment or an acceptable excuse to miss an event ... and none of us ever did ...
It was so difficult to learn that Liz had passed on ... She was , after all , a legend in her time ... She taught both our kids how to play the piano , or , at least what the piano was and what it could do ... and to this day , Rick age 51 and Kate age 49 still know what a piano is and still know what it capable of doing ... by those who practiced and followed her sage advice ... But they do remember Mrs. Brodt ...
To this day I cannot order French Onion Soup without remembering Liz and Mary Ann Berdan making the soup from scratch in a ky-chen ( Pa. Dutch ) that probably never smelled the same again ... Alarms went off all over Radnor Crossing and not even Stanley Steamer could restore that Ky-chen to what it was before that fateful day ... BUT ... it was delicious ...
Liz-Beth's quick wit and easy smile will live on in the memories and in the moments when reflecting back will conjure up another passing treasure ...
We will miss you , sweet lady , but we are better for having has the precious moments that we spent together ...

How to express everything that Elizabeth meant to me and my kids? I only wish I were as thoughtful and articulate as she was, being one of the few remaining people on this planet who would still hand-write thank you notes--and always know what to say. Whether as a violin or piano teacher to Sophie and Alex, a stalwart stand partner in Amici and MLSO sharing (subversive) jokes, or a confidante offering solace and comfort in hard times, she was the ultimate cheerleader and supporter. One could not find a better friend! Although I am heartbroken that her positive energy is no longer in this world, I am comforted that her memory lives on in the many lives that she touched.

Liz was one of a kind. A wonderful musician, good friend and someone who always asked about and thought of others before herself. She gave me one of her teaching violins and I've used it many times for students in need. It hangs on the wall of my music studio which had me thinking of her every day. It will hold even more meaning to me now. Her infectious laugh and sense of humor are what I remember the most about Liz. She was a strong, talented and very brave woman and I'll cherish the memories I have of her. Thank you, Liz!
This is how I knew Liz best. Playing her beloved violin.

My brother gave me the best "sister" I could have asked for when he married Elizabeth. I always looked forward to being with her as our talks would be varied and wide. From my friends, their lives and families to what was happening in the world around us. She helped me to think through any of my problems or concerns. She never judged, but guided me with questions and wisdom so that I could begin to understand and accept to a greater degree than I had previously. Both Doug and I will always remember her humor, her kindness, her strength, her dignity, her love and yes, those boxes of labeled, foil-wrapped Christmas treats! In our hearts and minds always.

Liz will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Her bright beautiful smile and contagious positive energy, will always be remembered, and live on in my and many hearts. She would always take the time to ask about my family and was so extremely thoughtful. She was a wonderful cook, and I´m so glad I got to enjoy some of her treats and delicious preparations. She had such team spirit and was full of fun. I will always remember her displaying that fun side with some "bling" on holidays and special occasions that only Liz could pull off. She most recently sent me a card, and I will treasure her kind words and beautiful heart. She was one of a kind and a Lady through and through. May her memory be eternal.

I was blessed to have Mrs. Brodt as my music teacher at Gladwyne Elementary School. I remember vividly being in her classroom and we would always start each class doing finger exercises! I lived close to school and was always so excited when she would drive by in her VW Bug and wave to me. Mrs. Brodt, I loved having you as a teacher and I loved reconnecting with you many years later through Connie. You will be so missed.

Feeling Profound sadness on the loss of my very dear friend. Liz was a blessing to all who were fortunate to have her touch their lives. She was kind, caring, intelligent, selfless, upbeat, loyal, a great listener, a gifted teacher, and a true friend. She never talked about herself unless asked but always was interested in everyone else first. Professionally, I had the privilege of watching her work her "magic" with every child she encountered.
Warren, George and I will always cherish our times together with you and Liz - the Eagles games and tailgates, the trips to see Broadway shows, Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving and monthly dinners, and everything Neil Diamond. We have wonderful stories, memories, and experiences that we will carry in our hearts forever. You know we are here for you always, dear friend.
