Elizabeth Buckley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2016.

Elizabeth R. (Harrison) Buckley of Killingworth passed away peacefully at home with her family and friends by her side on Thursday, July 21st. Special thanks go to CT Hospice of Branford and her best friends Sue and Evelyn. She is survived by her best friend and husband Tom Buckley and their three sons: Thomas II, Michael and Ryan, as well as her six grandchildren: John, Charlotte, Fiona, Mason, Teddy and Keegan. Elizabeth was born to Samuel and Ida Mae (Dawson) Harrison in Danville, PA and leaves four siblings: Phil, Samuel II, Mary and Janet. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother (Nana), Elizabeth was a dedicated elementary school teacher for twenty years at Chester Elementary School. This was made possible when her determined spirit compelled her to achieve her college degree at the age of 42 from SCSU. Elizabeth's time as a teacher allowed her to forge unbreakable friendships with her colleagues, all of whom she cherished. She was a faithful fanatic of the CT Sun WNBA team as well as a generous volunteer for Camp Hazen in Chester. Her service as a mentor in Regional District 4 also touched many young lives. Elizabeth's curiosity led her to explore the world with her husband, family and friends. Her connection with nature and gardening will always be remembered and carried on by those who loved her. A gathering for family and friends will be held at The Congregational Church in Killingworth on Tuesday, July 26th at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service to commemorate her life at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations to be used in a children's literacy program should be directed to the CT Sun Foundation (please mention Elizabeth's name) at 860-862-4000.

So very sorry. I did not know her personally but I know her son Ryan. He is a good person and father. He must be an example of the type of loving and nurturing person/mother Elizabeth must have been.

I will never forget the great memories as a kid growing up she provided us with. I was always at Mikes house paying and running wild, playing on the first computers and atari video games while watching this new tv show called MTV (white snake playing in the back round),having battles in the play room with every star wars toy available at the time. Yet she was always there with lots of love for all the crazy neighborhood kids who spent all day at their house. We will always love and miss you Elizabeth.....

Mrs. Buckley, my all-time favorite. I was fortunate to have her as my teacher twice at Chester Elementary. I don't think I could have been placed in better hands either time. She was such a charismatic human being and she truly loved what she did. Her positive energy is what encouraged and inspired me to work so hard at such a young age. I am forever thankful that I was lucky enough to have such a wonderful, happy and wise teacher involved in my days of youth. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed greatly.

I did not know her well, but her joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother and teacher could not be contained. I always felt uplifted every time I spoke with her. Her smile was genuine and kind. We are all better for having had her cross our paths. Though she was taken much too soon, may her example of warmth and kindness live on in all she leaves behind. May you find peace and comfort in this difficult time.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Elizabeth was one of my most favorite teachers at CES. All 3 of my children had her, and Josh twice! She was compassionate and caring and had great expectations which they all met. My children are so better educated because of Elizabeth. Prayers for peace for all of you.

Never will I forget your mom. All those years my partner in crime. She was a wonderful, fun, kind person, always ready to help everyone and anyone. Although we lost touch as the years passed, I have always considered her one of my closest, dearest friends. You were truly blessed to have her for a wife and a mom. Now at peace home with the Lord, I know she will one day be reunited with her loved ones - myself included -for all eternity. That will be one happy day! Love to you all.
