Elizabeth Currin

Currin Elizabeth "Bethel" Phipps Currin, 89, of Sugar Grove died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, with her daughters by her side at Springtree Health and Rehab Center in Roanoke. She was born in Grayson County on Dec. 30, 1921, to Zeb and Minnie Phipps. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Currin; two brothers, ZA and Clake Phipps; and two sisters, Ona Slemp and Lorene Wilson. She was a member of Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove. She enjoyed traveling, basket weaving, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. She was a retiree of Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion. Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Jim Bowman of Blue Ridge and Erma and Harry Anderson of Sugar Grove; four grandsons and wives, Jimmy and Teresa Bowman, Michael (Peanut) and Tamara Bowman of Blue Ridge, Travis Anderson of Arlington, and Eric and Meredith Anderson of Midlothian; five great-grandchildren, Kristi, Conner, Makena and Logan Bowman and Peyton Anderson; a special sister-in-law, Sue Skinner of Lynn, Maine; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Donald Medley officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Interment was conducted at Ridge Lawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11.
