Elizabeth DeCarlo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2025.
Elizabeth Ann DeCarlo, lovingly known as "Liz," passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, at her home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Liz grew up in Hazleton, Pennsylvania in a small but loving home with her parents Marian (Shema) and Robert (Bob) Balicki, Sr. and five siblings. She graduated from Bishop Hafey High School and continued her education at Neumann University. Liz began a fulfilling career as an Executive Assistant at MBNA America Bank. She continued as an Administrative Assistant at the Sisters of the Humility of Mary (PA), New Ark United Church of Christ (DE), and S.T. Good Insurance, Inc. She was passionate about her profession and took tremendous pride in her role and responsibilities, reaching a career capstone as an Executive Administrative Assistant at Sallie Mae for the past seven years.

Liz created a loving and welcoming home with her devoted husband, Ernie. Together, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, embracing new experiences and making cherished memories along the way. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel like they were her best friend and was known for her warmth and generosity. A consummate hostess, she delighted in bringing people together over good food and lively conversation.

Despite facing challenges with alopecia areata which started in her teens, Liz transformed her experience into an opportunity to help others. For ten years she led the National Alopecia Areata Foundations's Delaware Support Group including organizing an annual bowling event to raise funds for awareness and research. After her ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2021, she focused her efforts on raising funds for Unite for HER, a nonprofit supporting ovarian cancer patients.

Liz's kindness extended deeply to her family. She lovingly cared for her mother, siblings, nieces, and nephews, supporting them wholeheartedly in all their endeavors. Her bright and bubbly personality lit up every room she entered, and her warm smile left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ernie; her mother, Marian Balicki; siblings Marianne (Sam) Reeves, Carolyn Balicki, Joseph (Margaret) Balicki, Jennifer (Dan) Montone and Robert Balicki. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law Donna DeCarlo and brothers-in-law Alan (Donna) and Jeffrey (Dottie). She was predeceased by her father Robert Balicki, Sr. and father-in-law Ernest DeCarlo, Sr..

Liz's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unite for HER, 22 E. King St., Malvern, PA 19355 or Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, PO Box 32141, New York, NY

To honor Liz's wishes, no formal service will be held.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.
