ELIZABETH A. HORN

Elizabeth "Libby" A. Horn passed away on January 12, 2023 in Washington, DC. She was 85.

Libby was born in Elmira, NY as one of seven children. She graduated from Southside High School, also in Elmira, NY, in 1955. Libby then graduated from the University of Rochester's School of Nursing in Rochester, NY after attending on a scholarship.

Following graduation, Libby moved to Washington, DC where she worked as a nurse at Georgetown University Hospital. During this time, she met Michael "Mike" F. Horn, of Lebanon, PA, whom she married in 1960. The two returned to Rochester, NY, where they began their family.

Libby was an avid art enthusiast and earned a graduate degree in Art History from the University of Minnesota, where the family resided for six years. After Mike's career with the global accounting firm KPMG brought them back to Washington, DC, she earned a master's degree in Museum Education from The George Washington University. Libby worked as a docent at both the historic Decatur House and the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum.

In her final years, Libby resided in both Arlington, VA and Naples, FL.

Libby was devoted to her family and is survived by her son, Michael Horn Jr.; daughters, Jennifer Cottingham and Juliet Horn; sisters Dolores McLellan and Maureen Kay; and grandson, Jonathan Milles.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 10, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Washington, DC.

Ms. Libby loved her children with the power and force of a million suns. She also loved her husband, Michael, and truly was the secret behind his success. It was an honor to know her and be in her circle of influence. She was petite but mighty. A force of nature. A pixie filled with joy. I will miss her impish grin, laugh, and sass. There is a hole in my heart but we are an Easter people and will one day be reunited and enjoy a big bowl of strawberries and cream.
