My deepest sympathies go out to all the Masquelette family. They were like a second family to me growing up, very understanding and kind even when it truly was my brother Craig that threw the EGG. Peace be with you all.

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of Elizabeth. My mother, her step-sister, Mary Louise (Jackson) McColpin passed away in February. It is a very tough time and my thoughts are with you. I remember her and all of you fondly from our trips to visit John and Elizabeth (our grandparents) when my brother, John, and I were young.

The Masquelette family saved my life a half a century ago when I was in a great deal of trouble and a long way from home. I have not kept in touch but have never forgotten the kindness and charity of the family and their friends. Because of them, I have gone on to live a happy and productive life. My prayers and good thoughts go out to all of you at this time.

Losing a loved one is never easy, but our loving god promises to give the strength and courage you'll need to endure, and to cope with the pain of your loss. He also promises to hold your hand every step of the way. (Isaiah 40:29, 41:10, 13)

Elizabeth's courage and conviction impressed me decades ago, when we were both St. John's mothers, and I attended a coffee at her home to support the successful campaign of Judson Robinson Sr. to become the first black Houston City Council member. Ever since then, I have regarded the Masquelette name as a brave symbol of a just future for us. I am grateful for people like Elizabeth and offer condolences to her family.

Elizabeth was a presence in my life from an early age as a neighborhood mother of several children near my age. Her life was distinguished and worthy as a wife, mother and member of the Episcopal clergy. My sincere sympathy and condolences go out to Laura and Philip whom I knew well from our years at St. John's School. God bless Elizabeth Masquelette and welcome her into Your Kingdom.

My heart breaks with you all. I have loved her since serving as her acolyte at Epiphany In 1979. My heart was thrilled to attend a service in 2011 at St. Francis and finding her name on the bulletin. I have cherished the time I have spent with her. She was an amazing and accomplished woman with an incredibly loving and gentle spirit. When my family moved us to Fort Worth in 1981, I learned that girls were unable to serve as acolytes. I was devastated and informed the rector that his position was ridiculous as my priest in Houston was a girl. For once I didn't get in trouble for being cheeky and the rector was left with nothing to say.
I have never tired of listening to the stories Phillip tells about falling in love with her. They always have me hope that someday someone would come along and love me as fiercely.
I'm praying for all of you.
I miss her already.
