To the South and Grogan families:
I was so very sad to hear the news this week of Lizzie's passing in June.
Lizzie, Jenny and Emily were at St. Kilda Park Primary School with my children, Elly and Marcus Both.

As I was new to Melbourne in 1976, Lizzie's mother Di took me under her wing, and she arranged a barbecue so that my children would have friends on day 1 at their new school.
Di and I became firm friends.
Later, I recommended Di when there was a Maths vacancy at Albert Park High School, and we taught together.
We developed a 'coffee catch up group' of like-minded women, and met several times a year for many years.

My children and I were invited to be part of many South family events at Loch Street over many years.

Although reserved, Lizzie was a very clever girl. She was studious and musical.
Di was a wonderful mother. The South home was vibrant, with encouragement of academic rigour. The home rang with music and everyone was encouraged to participate in family fun.
I clearly remember Di's excitement at the arrival of Lizzie and Liam's first child. After that time, Di took ill and we lost contact with the three girls. I have missed Di incredibly. She was an important person in my life.

As a family, we all send our heartfelt sympathy to Liam and his girls on their incredible loss.

Liz was a wonderful colleague and friend whose humor, warmth, insight and intelligence is already so much missed. Much love to Liam, Sethwyn, Arcadia and Liz's wider family. You are all in my thoughts.
