Mae Elizabeth “Liz” Henton Murphy went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023. She was born on May 2nd, 1924 to Pearl and Richard Henton in Locust Grove, OK. She went to High School in Mounds Valley, where she eagerly played Basketball. She met and married Jack Murphy on December 24th. She followed Jack around the country as he was deployed in the Military Service for World War II.
They finally settle down in Sapulpa, OK in the late 1950’s when Jack got a job with OG&E and she a job with Midwestern Equipment Corporation. On October 19, 1963, Jack and Liz were blessed with a little boy, Greg Murphy. In 1994 Liz retired from Midwestern Corporation to spend more time with her grandson, Jared Murphy.
Liz bowled around the country for more than 40 years, which was a favorite past time of hers, where she met many friends from far and wide, and got to travel the country for many National Bowling Tournaments.
Liz is survived by son, Greg Murphy, grandson, Jared Murphy and wife Melinda Murphy of Sapulpa, OK and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews across the country.
Liz is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Henton, father, Richard Henton, brother, Joe Henton, sister, Martha Lunsford, brother, Walter Henton, sister, Elma Dene “Pete” Lowrey, sister, Mary Nichols, and daughter-in-law, Cherie Murphy.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, Monday, February 27, 2023, at Traditions Funeral Chapel in Kellyville. Services will be 2:00pm, Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Sapulpa with burial to follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Sapulpa. Arrangements are under the direction of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, Oklahoma, 918-247-7373.
