Elizabeth Potts Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2024.
Elizabeth Anne Potts passed away on September 15, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV, at the age of 91. She was born Elizabeth Anne Wells on February 14, 1933, in Mesa, AZ. Affectionately nicknamed Mickey by her father, she was a woman whose life was filled with love, laughter and an unwavering devotion to family.

Mickey met her lifelong love, Ted Potts, in high school and became his biggest supporter throughout his football years in school. They married in 1952 and were blessed with three children. Mickey's home was the heart of many cherished family get- togethers, including festive Thanksgiving gatherings, the baking of Christmas cookies, and activities that brought joy to not only herself, but also to her children and grandchildren. Her passion for dancing with Ted led them to enter numerous dancing contests, creating lifelong memories.

Elizabeth graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, VA and attended Sullivan's College for a year. Mickey's early career involved working at REA in Raleigh, NC, and working later at Weaver Bros. in Springfield, VA, where she was instrumental in processing loans and establishing a new branch in Tysons Corner in VA. She also served as the editor of the Lady Bug Paper at the Air Force Base in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mickey was deeply committed to her faith, actively participating in several congregations throughout her life, including Beverly Hills United Methodist Church in Arlington, VA, Grace United Methodist Church in Manassas, VA, Surfside United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, NV.

In her leisure, Mickey enjoyed painting, golfing and playing bridge. She also loved entertaining her friends.

She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Edward "Ted" Potts, and a caring mother to her children. Mickey is survived by her son Kevin (Joyce) Potts, daughter Kim (Tom) Huwe, sister Nancy Turnage, eight grandchildren-Eric, Julia, Adam, Terianne, Jennifer, Stephanie, Rachel, Allie-and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her daughter Terry Stevens, parents John and Mildred Wells, sister Cheri Redd, and her infant grandson Matthew Potts.

Mickey's life was marked by her generosity, acceptance of others, and a profound devotion to her family and faith. Her legacy of love and community involvement will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Mickey will be laid to rest next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Her Celebration of Life will be held on November 9 at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 144 Ebenezer Church Road, Oldhams, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or any animal shelter honoring her compassionate spirit.

Grandma taught me the importance of family. Grandma was all about family. She loved hosting big family get-togethers. When I was younger, I would spend countless countless hours at her house whether playing in the sandbox & swinging on the hammock (pre-pool days), caring for my pet bunny whose cage resided in their backyard, sleepovers & waking up to my favorite breakfast of French Toast (Gdpa made the best French Toast), summer visits and playing with all the cousins, their amazing long & steep driveway that made anything with wheels so much fun, pool days, college entrance letters on the "old school" typewriter (pre-computer days lol) and so many more wonderful memories too numerous to list. She was always so happy to have me and any family there. Until we meet again Gdma, love you.
