NEWARK/PORT GIBSON - Elizabeth "Betty" Rease, 92, died Friday (June 15, 2018) at the DeMay Living Center.

A Funeral Service for Betty will be at noon on Friday (June 29) at the First United Methodist Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be at the East Newark Cemetery.

Memorials, in her name, may be made to either the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 189, Newark, New York 14513 or the Walworth United Methodist Church, 3679 Main Street, Walworth, New York 14568.

Betty was born on January 12, 1926 in Newark, the daughter of the late Abraham and Mary Alice Caster Scheerens. Her mother died from complications of childbirth so Betty was raised by her maternal grandparents Erwin and Myrtle Caster. She was a 1943 graduate of Newark High School and attended the St Louis School of Music. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark and was active with the United Methodist Women. She had been involved with the church's music programs for many years. Betty had worked as an assistant librarian at the Walworth Public Library and the Wayne Central School District. An accomplished pianist, she loved to play the piano any chance she had. Betty took pride in her family and she enjoyed all family gatherings.

She is survived by three sons Stephen of Palmyra, Gary (Vickie) of Palmetto, Fla., Daniel (Ann) of East Palmyra; two daughters Nancy (William) Schrader of Newark and Jennifer (Edward) Weykman of Palmyra;14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, George in 1998; a daughter Kathryn Rease and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Rease.
