Elizabeth Richards Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 4 to Nov. 8, 2020.
Richards, Elizabeth 9/7/1933 - 11/2/2020 Muskegon Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Richards, age 87, of Muskegon, MI, left behind her sickness and pain, and stepped into eternal joy and peace with her Heavenly Father on Monday, November 2, 2020 after complications from a recent surgery. Betty was born in Muskegon on September 7, 1933 as the youngest of five sisters. She was a graduate of North Muskegon High School and Western Michigan University, where she studied to become a teacher. She taught school for many years, mostly at Twin Lake Elementary School and later at White Lake Christian School, with most of those years being spent teaching kindergarten. She served faithfully at Dalton Baptist Church as coordinator of Children's Ministries for many years, and also as a pianist. Most recently she was a member of Olivet Evangelical Free Church. Her special interests included gardening and baking. She will most certainly be remembered for her gift of hospitality, opening her family home to countless numbers of extended family and friends who became family - some for a meal, some for a temporary home. Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George Marvin Richards; 4 children - Scott Richards, Amy (Tom) Johnson, Brent (Kathy) Richards, and Eric Richards. She adored her grandchildren including Adam Richards, Tony Overway, Renee Carpenter, Rochelle (Marc) Treat, Caleb Richards, Joshua Richards, Gavin Richards, and George Richards, and her 8 great grandchildren. There will be no memorial service held at this time.

Our family got to meet and grew to love Betty at Hillcrest Nursing home! She was such a dear sweet lady. We loved her smile and sweet caring nature! She would stop by and check in on our mother everyday! She would play the piano for all of us and bring such pure joy! It breaks our heart that she is gone but we all know she is in a much better place now! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marv and the rest of her family! She will be very missed! With love from Hester, Toni, Ruth and Cassie.

She was my introduction to school in the Fall of 1965. I still have memories of our trip to the Farmer's Market in Muskegon and can picture our room in my mind. She was kind to this rambunctious boy and I am sure she will be missed by many. Peace and prayers to her family and close friends.

She was my 2nd Mom! I loved her deep. She “adopted” Doug & I when we were 21 years old first serving at Dalton Baptist in 1971-75 the first time. She was the hostess with the Mostest. She loved her family fiercely and lovingly. There was only one Betty. Oh to be a portion of who she was. She’s “Finally Home,” with Jesus who she passionately loved and served. I love you Mom Betty forever and always.
