Elizabeth Roth Elizabeth "Betsy" Roth passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, compassion, and quiet strength that will continue to ripple through all who knew her.
Born on June 24, 1951, in Kansas, Betsy carried her Midwestern roots with her when she made
Taos, New Mexico her home over 40 years ago. It was here that she built a life defined by service, connection, and an unwavering appreciation for the beauty-and absurdity-of everyday moments.
Betsy had a rare gift: she could find humor in just about anything. Her laughter was unmistakable-warm, full, and contagious-and it had a way of lifting spirits, even in difficult times. She was the kind of person who reminded others not to take life too seriously, often saying, "Life is all about choices," and with a knowing smile, "We're all a nanosecond away from disaster." Those words, both humorous and wise, reflected her grounded perspective and her ability to face life with grace and honesty.
A fiercely loyal friend, Betsy "stuck to the oath"-a phrase she lived by in her relationships. She showed up, stood by others, and offered unwavering support, no matter the circumstance. Her friendships were deep, enduring, and filled with shared laughter and trust.
Above all, Betsy was a devoted and loving mother. She raised her children, Rachel and Micah, with intention and heart, instilling in them the values she held most dear: kindness, compassion, and empathy. Through her example, she shaped them into caring human beings who will carry her spirit forward.
For more than 30 years, Betsy served the Taos community as an occupational therapist with Taos Municipal Schools. Her work was more than a profession-it was a calling. She touched the lives of countless children, helping them grow, adapt, and thrive. Her patience, dedication, and genuine care made a lasting difference not only in her students' lives but also in the families and colleagues who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Betsy's spirituality shone quietly but powerfully, a steady beacon for those around her. She offered comfort without judgment, wisdom without pretense, and love without condition. Her presence made people feel seen, supported, and understood.
She will be deeply missed by her children, her friends, her colleagues, and the many lives she touched. Though she is gone, her laughter echoes on, her lessons remain, and her light continues to guide those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In honoring Betsy, may we remember to choose kindness, to find humor even in hardship, and to cherish each moment-because, as she reminded us, life is precious, unpredictable, and always shaped by the choices we make.
