Elizabeth Sinclair Obituary

Published by Prince George Citizen from Jan. 29 to Jan. 31, 2016.
Elizabeth Sinclair (nee Kienzle) June 13, 1918 January 24, 2016 Elizabeth passed away peacefully in Gateway Lodge. She was predeceased by husband, George, sons Brian and Dale and daughter, Arline Boyd, brothers W. Kienzle, Alfred Kienzle and Colin Haynes. Survived by many relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Elizabeth was born in Prince George and grew up in Beaverly. She attended school in PG until Grade 8. Liz and George married in 1937 and moved to Isle Pierre in 1947, where Liz packed wood and water and shot moose and rabbits for their dinner. They lived in the Fraser Valley for a short while and moved to Fort St James in 1972-1984 where Liz worked as a Practical Nurse in Stuart Lake Hospital and where George passed away in 1975. Liz had many wonderful memories of these days, including many memorable adventures! She returned to Prince George in 1984 due to health concerns. Liz made many friends in her travels and treasured these friendships. Elizabeth loved camping and was Campground Hostess at Mt. Robson for 7 years. She enjoyed her camper until she was 80. Liz was very proud to volunteer with the LA to the Royal Canadian Legion, White Cane Club, Good Cheer Club, Meals on Wheels, Lupus Support Group, and others. Liz felt fortunate to have travelled to Australia and throughout Canada and was thrilled to have waded in the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. She was well-known for her Christmas fruitcakes, short bread cookies and "bunny shaped" cookies for all the children who called her "Grum". Elizabeth moved into Gateway in January 2009. Even though she was in a long term facility, she always made a point of being well dressed and was never without a pin or brooch on her sweater. She kept up with current events and kept track of her grandchildren and what they were doing. Elizabeth is survived by many relatives and friends, too numerous to mention. No service by Liz's request but there will be a Memorial Tea Thursday February 4, 1-3 p.m. at Gateway Lodge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PG Hospice Society, SPCA or a charity of your choice.

My first memories of Elizabeth was meeting at the Hudson Bay with her little dog in her pocket. (1976) Thanks for all the memories and Christmas cakes. Your friendship was enjoyed and we shared lots of interest like the out of doors.

I have so many memories that warm me at this time, Elizabeth. Most of them about perseverance, many of them involve laughter, some of them a lesson, all of them treasured.

Elizabeth my cherished friend. I enjoyed the days working at Gateway, just to see you first thing in the morning. It brought me great joy to see the delight on your face enjoying a Tim's coffee. I enjoyed our long talks and hugs. I will forever miss you. I will cherish the memories and the love. Till we meet again...:)

Dear Miss Elizabeth, I loved all the stories you shared with me, such a strong woman, a true Prince George pioneer who watched the birth of our City, I will always cherish the signed copy of your Biography and re-read it many time during my life. Condolences to the family of this precious jewel.
