Elizabeth Thimmesch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2025.
Elizabeth Susan Thimmesch, 69, of Riverside, California, died at home on June 9th, 2025, of natural causes.

Elizabeth was born November 11th, 1955, (yes, on 11/11/55) in New York City, NY to Nicholas Palen and Wynora Susan (Plum) Thimmesch. She would move with her family many times after her birth, to Pontiac, Michigan, then to Silver Spring, Maryland, on to Croton-On-Hudson, then to Arlington, Virginia, to Washington, DC, and then Chevy Chase, Maryland, all before the age of eighteen. This nomadic lifestyle would continue into her adult life as well.

Elizabeth's high school years, between 1969 to 1974, were spent attending several different schools, those being Woodrow Wilson High School, Emerson Preparatory School, and Sandy Spring Friends School, which coincided with the turbulent days of the height of protests about the ongoing Vietnam War, many which she joined as a teenager.

Elizabeth began her personal journey sometime after 1974 where she began living at times in Dublin, Ireland, London, England, New York City, New York and Santa Monica, California until 1985. This was a time when Elizabeth became deeply involved in the production of early forms of the emerging music video short films. Many of her interactions were with the musicians, producers and personalities of the New Wave music genre just coming into popular culture.

In 1986, she gave birth to her only child, the late Miles Franklin Thimmesch, who's father was the late John McGeoch, a Scottish musician and songwriter. This led to a number of unsettled years where she tried, vainly, to juggle her desire to be involved in the popular music scene and raise her son.

Survivors include her brothers Peter Allan Thimmesch (Lauren) of Potomac Falls, Virginia and Michael Eugene Thimmesch (Teri) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a half-sister Tara Anne Shannon of Portland, Maine, nieces and nephews Nathaniel Drews (Nicholas), Andrew, Rebecca, Alison, Paige, Lane and Nora Thimmesch (Peter), Matthew Gildemeister, Megan and Sara Thimmesch (Michael) and Caroline Shannon, Lindsey Boozer and Anna Thayer (Tara).

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her son Miles, one brother Nicholas Palen Thimmesch, II and one sister Martha Marie Thimmesch.

The family will be holding a private graveside service and burial on October 11th, 2025 where she will be laid to rest in Saint Donatus Catholic Cemetery in the historical Luxembourg village of Saint Donatus, Iowa.
