Tina Wakerell was not only a brilliant TV director but a kind and outstandingly decent human being. I worked with her on documentaries on difficult social subjects, often involving the vulnerable. Tina and I would never allow exploitation.
Her kindness extended to rescue cats - she must have rescued most of the abandoned animals when the old Cowcaddens area was being gutted. She had dozens of cats she took home.
I remember making one documentary where Tina was regularly looking inside her Puffa jacket - concealed was a tiny newborn kitten she called "Baby". That kitten was on location with us for weeks, keeping warm next to Tina who fed "Baby" with a pipette
Her many TV drama triumphs included STV's evergreen and marvellous "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"
Bless you, Tina. Dorothy-Grace Elder
