Elizabeth Whittemore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2021.
Elizabeth "Betty" Rylance Whittemore peacefully passed away on Monday January 11,2021. She was born August 2, 1935 in Blakey, PA to John Louis Welsh and Lenore Smith Welsh. Betty is survived by her husband Maurice "Mo" J. Whittemore Jr., one daughter Roberta "Bobbi" L. Whittemore, three sons Maurice J . Whittemore III, David A. Whittemore, Mark L. Whittemore, a brother Alan Welsh & wife Marilyn, and six grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by parents, and a brother Larry Welsh & wife Francis. Betty was a Purdue Graduate ('57). She and her husband met on campus. They lived in Indianapolis, Rushaville, and Kokomo before moving to New Palestine in 1969. Interested in many things, Betty loved to travel and explore, she was a muzzle loading competitor, a seamstress, a Girl Scout leader, and she helped run the family business, 700 West Recording Studio which has become a part of central Indiana music history. many would know her from her participation in the activities of New Palestine; especially her 25+ years of service with the Lions Club where, among other service, she helped coordinate the annual fall festival & distribute glasses to those in-need in Mexico. Betty never met a stranger. She was a loving and caring person who touched many lives. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and the care of Betty's loved ones, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later time. Online condolences may be left at hendryxmortuary.com. Hendryx Mortuary is honored to be assisting the family with the arrangements.

Dear Bobbi and Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother. By the time you and I were roommates at Purdue Bobbi, I had lost both of my parents and sometimes I tended to reach out to my best friends parents. Your Mom was so gracious to help me not once but several times and I have never forgotten that. Thank you for sharing her with me.

All my Love, Karan

Dear Mo and kids,
We are so sorry to hear about your mom. She was certainly a special lady and we enjoyed being your neighbors for 40 years. I loved talking with her about so many different things. We will be praying for you all.

Dear Moe, Bobby, Maurice, David, Mark,
I'm so sorry to hear about your wife/ mom passing. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
I remember years ago Betty spent the night at my parents house and I was still living their. Betty and I were in the same bedroom and we talked and laughed the whole night through. It was like a slumber party with friends. She was a great lady. I love you guys. Hugs!❤

I was one of the musicians fortunate enough to have had the honor of working with the good folks at 700 West Recording, and I am so glad that I had the chance to get to know Betty and her family. She was always kind and made us feel at home, even when we interrupted meals and kept Moe working well into the night..Betty was a very intelligent , creative person, and her dedication to the Lion's Club set a good example for us all. Prayers for Betty and the whole family.
