Ella Louise Whitaker Amey

Mrs. Ella Louise Whitaker Amey, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Mrs. Amey was born May 10, 1953, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Paul Folger and Pansy Arizona Coe Whitaker. Louise dedicated much of her life to caring for others, working for many years as a certified nursing assistant at several local nursing homes. She also enjoyed her time working in the bakery at Ingles Markets. Later in life, she proudly supported her husband in the restaurant business, lending a helping hand at Ray’s Starlight Restaurant and Western Steer Steakhouse. She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Burton Charles Amey; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Amey was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Whitaker Rogers and Violet Mae Whitaker; and three brothers, Paul David Whitaker, Joseph Ray Whitaker, and the Rev. Jack Junior Whitaker. In keeping with her wishes, no formal visitation or service will be held. Friends may reach out to the family at the home.
