Ella Ophelia Johnson Bivens

Ella Ophelia Johnson Bivens, age 100 was born on September 1, 1922 in Waterproof, Louisiana was welcomed into the arms of God on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the home of her son Frank Jr. She graduated from Tensas Parish Training School in St. Joseph, Louisiana and attended Straight Business School in 1946 when she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Ella joined and became a member of Law Street Baptist Church in 1952. She later worked as a Maintenance Secretary for 23 years, served in the Women's Auxiliary for 39 years and Law Height Benevolent Association. She also worked with Xavier Prep P.T.A., St. Philip P.T.A., Helen S. Edward School, Clouet & People Neighborhood Organization and Stitch and Chat Club. Ella was the loving mother of Beverly Brown (John), Sandra Jupiter, Deborah Bivens-Patterson, Wanda Bowman and Frank James Bivens, Jr. She is survived by her 5 children, 14 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends as well as devoted friends Naomi White, Carol Jenkins, Edith Price, Paula Smith, Hilda Montegut, Evangeline Ishem and Hattie Perrier-Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank James Bivens, Sr.; parents Frisby Johnson and Ella Calvin Johnson; and her sisters Corneilus, Daisy, Rose and Mary. Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastor, officers and members of Law Street B.C., Franklin Avenue B.C. and the staff of Notre Dame Hospice Healthcare System are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Law Street Baptist Church, 3132 Law Street, New Orleans, LA 70117.
