I've delayed writing to mark our loss of 7 years. I no longer consider it a lucky number and still haven't come to terms. We would have just celebrated our "40th anniversary". Not how I expected it. The way we used to imagine the future being such a big part of each other's existence. I'm holding up my end. You were, are and will always be a defining part of mine

I used to think the worst part about your birthday falling out on Passover was just having to tell you we can't have your favorite cake from NOLA. I'd give anything to be able to sit across from you and do that again.

We should be sitting in front of your "surprise birthday Doberge cake" today with 2 forks unwilling to share right away, just like we used to. So happy that Passover didn't prevent you from having it on your exact day and you knowing why I showed up on a day I wasn't scheduled to work. As always, I'll never forget you

4 years gone. Never 4gotten.

Dear Mom,
Can't seem to get out of February fast enough, as this time around it's indeed a Leap year. Last time we had Feb. 29, I saw you in the flesh, and we talked; not sure if I was with you in Israel on this day, or I was on my way. The closest ones, our kin - or next of kin - speak of you often, as they lift their glasses in your honor, and others visit you still. For those instances alone, we should feel grateful that you're deep within our hearts. Even still, February can't end soon enough as I love & miss you.

More time has passed, but Ellen's legacy continues to grow through stories, memories, and her son Jared.

Miss you every day.

May her life and child be her legacy. Her memory continues to be a blessing.

I always think of Ellen laughing with her long blonde hair blowing in the wind. She was a great friend to me and to my family. One day after I had my son, I went to visit her at the St. Regis Hotel. Ellen was so excited about baby Robert and began to sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider!" It was like having a Broadway musical all to ourselves. My son was so happy watching her pretend the rain was falling from the ceiling. So adorable to watch; she really understood how to connect. This was one of her vast gifts that I really miss the most. She had style but was never stuffy. Ellen was "Park Avenue" with twist of grit that you felt everytime you looked into her eyes. RIP Ellen - love you always.

I didn't personally know Ellen, however, I have a glimpse of her through Jared.



Jared: Didn't your Mom always say to "not lose sight of the forest for the trees?" She accomplished a tremendous amount in her life, impacting people on professional and personal levels. But her greatest accomplishment was that she passed these values onto you.



Wishing you my deepest condolences Jared, and continue to "not lose sight of the forest for the trees."

She knew how to say exactly what she was thinking in a straight-forward, honest way that was also gentle and comforting. I loved her compassionate honesty. I always think of her when I go by the Hotel Boulderado and remember all of us hanging out after your graduation. That was a special time and when I first met her and got to be friends.



Jared, your convictions and actions are a blessing to her memory, and may her memory always be a blessing to you.

You were a great soul. I did not meet you but I can detect it knowing your son and the great love he continues to feel for you. You are still greatly loved.

Even though I didn't meet Ellen in person, I've met her son. Ellen did an excellent job with raising him.

Ellen was a very special human being - and I know that she remains a unique light in spirit. She was a strong and successful businesswoman but was able to thrive in that tough world and still be one of the kindest and most compassionate people I've ever met. She helped me so much and had a profound effect on my life.



I miss her deeply and think of her often. I am very, very grateful to have known her.

While I unfortunately never got the chance to meet Ellen in person, her presence was often felt around my friend Jared. I feel like her wise guidance will continue to accompany her loved ones in the grand adventure that is life.

May Ellen be as near and felt as the Light that binds us all.

Ellen was very special.

While I didn't know Ellen personally, I have been impressed with her and feel I know her through her son Jared. She obviously instilled a tremendous legacy that he will carry on.

After 6 months, I still miss my sister, Ellen, every single day.

Dearest Ellen,


My last memory of you is of you laughing with my mother and Deena, and all of us having so much fun playing a ramshackle game of trivia that I threw together for a jazzfest seder at my Mom's house in 2016. As I sat there, uneasy in what should have been my Dad's seat, I felt how much my life had come full circle. You were so warm and kind to me then, as you were always. I wish you peace. You are missed by so many.

I met Ellen in the chemo room. We were both going through treatment. She was in the bed next to me surrounded by a group of friends. I heard their accents and knew they were not New Yorkers. Turns out Ellen was the "Queen of New Orleans" and her friends were her loyal ministers, advisors, and jesters.


Ellen had an air about her that made you want to get close to her; she radiated life, intelligence, experience, humor, and empathy. She listened to every word that I said - really listened with all her being, even in her last day. And when she spoke, she spoke truly and gracefully. She taught me a lot with few words. She taught me the most important lesson: how to die as fully and as magnificently as you live.


I only knew her for her last few months on this Earth, but I will remember her forever. May her soul have peace and joy in the world of truth.

I was blessed to have known Ellen. She was unique, warm, clever and an elegant woman.

My deep condolences to you, Jared.

You are so missed, Ellen. A more giving friend and warm person cannot be found. You have been my inspiration for strength and pushed me toward risk-taking and adventure throughout our lives.


Your New Orleans friends have continued to bond for all these years in good part because of how you always kept touch and brought us together.


There are endless tributes in so many endeavors I could name, however you were always proudest of your son, Jared. He is the embodiment of all you hoped - honesty, intelligence and compassion - truly a great legacy.

I'm saddened by the loss of Ellen, a kind and wonderful person. I was only able to meet her once, but know her son, Jared. May her name be a blessing to all those who knew her in the U.S., Israel, and around the world.

It was my privilege to have known you from your teen years in New Orleans and to have reconnected this last year here in Israel. I came to know the very special woman that you became and to share in your warmth, love and charm.


Your memory will always serve as a blessing to all of whom were acquainted with and loved you.

Thank you Ellen for believing in me.

Ellen - a wonderful woman, whose intelligence, generosity, courage, and joie de vivre are inspiring and unforgettable.

Your fortitude, persistence and intelligence are immeasurable. I was so lucky to be your son. We forged an everlasting bond, and am saddened I can't share with you the next chapters of my life. You'll be guiding me from above, and will be felt by all those who have been touched by your immortalized soul.

The moment of meeting someone special that truly changes life is destiny. I will always remember you laughing, and singing Itsy, Bitsy, Spider to my little one at The St. Regis. Thank you for being the sweetest friend to me.
