Entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 11, 2011, Ellen Teresa Hyland Burckhardt wife of the late Edward William Burckhardt. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in St. Mary's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Burckhardt was born February 17, 1927 in New York, NY, daughter of the late Joseph Hyland and Ellen O'Brien Hyland. She was a former employee with the State Ports Authority, College of Charleston Admissions Office and the Charleston Museum. She was also a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Burckhardt and his wife, Amy of Charleston, SC and Donald Burckhardt and his wife, Vicki of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Karen Kmetetz and her husband, David of Berwyn, PA and two grandchildren, Kyle Kmetetz and Kristen Kmetetz. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407.
