Ellen Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2009.
SMITH, Ellen Orlick Peacefully on 13 June 2009, predeceased by her beloved husband George on 13 June 2001. Ellen and George grew up in Hamilton and were married June 1935. They moved to Ottawa in 1950 and established Randall's Paints and ColorSmiths, and were active in Kinsmen and Kinettes. They were equal partners in business and life. Left to laugh, cry, and retell her stories are their two "perfect" daughters, Patricia Ann Menconi Garrett (John) of Houston and Jennifer Ellen Salahub (Dennis) of Calgary. Grandmother to Debra, Al (Erica) and David (Marcy). Great-grandma Ellen to: Britney and Trey; Brooke, Sonia, Elyse and Xander; Sasha, Suzette, Tiffany, Skylar and Cole. Also survived by her cherished nieces, nephews and caring friends. Ellen never divulged her age and we aren't breaking the faith! She lived a full life and loved to read. Might we suggest that you support the Friends of the Public Library Association as a gesture of remembrance? At Ellen's request there will be no visitation or service. Condolences, tributes or donations may be shared at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com .

Mrs Smith, as we were taught to call her, first came into my life in a box of fabric. Odds and ends that were pieces of life I had never seen before. I used them to make clothes for my dolls. My first job was at 14, dusting the lids of the paint cans at Randalls. When Mr and Mrs Smith purchased a cottage on the same lake as we were, it began a whole life filled with memories of our families sharing times together. It is each time I start up the pump, walking by the rhubarb plant- I will remember you Mrs Smith.
Thank you, with love, for all you have given me.

Your Mum was quite the gal in Kinettes and always had a tale or two to tell, and of course bragging about her daughters and grandchildren. We know she missed your Dad, and hope that they are both together again, and as young at heart as she always was!

Please accept our deepest sympathy,
Fran & Gerry Allen, Life Members Ottawa Kin
