Dear Ginny and family,

Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Ellery was a very special man and we were all blessed to have known him. I remember with fondness those family reunions at your home on the lake. Ellery's sense of fun and kindness endeared him to many people. His face would beam when he smiled and the recipient couldn't help it but to beam back. You were always very gracious as well, Ginny, considering the whole Scott famiy had descended on you and Lord knows the Scotts liked to eat. Unfortunately, I fear it is a family trait I've inherited as well. Whenever I met Ellery he was always a gentleman and I can only imagine what a great husband and father he must have been. Even when he wasn't able to speak he was able to express himself and have a good laugh. It was so evident the day my Dad and I dropped in to visit a year or two ago. You were giving my Dad a hair cut and I was making fun of my Dad's eyebrows when Ellery started pointing to my hair and laughing. I quickly realized he was making fun of the gray streaks that were developing. Leave it to him to quickly pick up on that. What a ham he was and so much fun to be around. I know that the last several years were challenging as you cared for him. I hope that you are able to find peace in your heart and mind knowing that you were there when he needed you. Take care of yourself and I hope you'll be up to visit soon. On behalf of David, Christian, and I our heartfelt condolences are extended to you and your family.

John and I were so sorry to hear of Ellery's passing. I considered him to be my "favorite uncle" and one I always enjoyed seeing. When I think of Ellery I think of his wonderful sense of humor and ready smile. He was a great tease. You never left him without feeling a little happier than you were before your visit and always left with a smile on your face. I know that his family was so important to him. He will be remembered as a wonderful man who brought sunshine to those who were lucky enough to know him. John and I offer our deepest condolences to the family.

Papa, with all my issues with memory loss, I remember you:
. quitting smoking with Juicy Fruit gum
. watching wrestling on the weekends
. me sleeping with my head resting on your side as you drove me to Maine in the summertime
. walking up the road to get some spruce tree gum
. picking veggies from your garden that you tended to every day
. you walking into the lake with all your clothes on when you got hot
. taking the hook out of Dacey when I was fishing off the deck
. teaching me how to do a lot of home repair by being your grunt
. impressing me with your dance moves at my wedding
. being your back alley bridge partner
. critiquing my 1st attempts at cooking steak
. holding your great grandchildren
Love,
Kerri
