For Elmer...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I loved Elmer Bernstein's music! He was truly one of the masters of film scoring. Ever since I saw "The Magnificent Seven" and was stunned by that rousing score, I've made it a point to see everything I could that had his music in it. His scores elevated even mediocre or bad films. I was saddened to learn of his passing but he has a legacy that will live forever. Rest in Peace Mr. Bernstein. You will truly be missed!

Dear Bernstein Family, I am only 50, but remember being so moved seeing to Kill a Mockingbird as a child in the outdoor movies with my family. As I am a pt musician and after seeing the movie again, I realized that the score was as great as the movie, one of my favorites to this day. I hope that my Anthony meets Elmer, says hi and tells him how moving his compositions are. Good music is like a flowery engraving in one's brain. God Bless, A fan.

Mr Bernstein and his music were loved by many. How happy we will be when those in the memorial tombs hear our Lord's voice and come out to a resurrection of life. What a time of great joy when we are reunited with our deceased loved ones.

Such a great loss. Jerry Goldsmith, then David Raksin, and now Elmer Bernstein. I remember watching him rehearse an orchestra and I believe he conducted left handed. We will miss you...

I'm listening to some of Elmer's movie music this afternoon. While I wasn't lucky enough to meet the gentleman, it's impossible not to notice his inventiveness in wonderful scores like HAWAII, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. If God has an idea for a 'celestial' symphony, I'm willing to bet he'll ask Elmer to compose it for him?

I LOVED this man's music! He would write it all no matter what the film score.

He was a composer of many moods, nuances from the sublime to the incredibly romantic to the bombastic --his music always matched the scene on the screen.

Shalom, Brother Bernstein.

May all the good that you did in your life be remembered by all who knew you and those of us who loved your music.

Thank you!

Mr. Bernstein was incredibly talented, enhancing greatly every motion picture he composed for. Filmgoers who know only today's practice of loading up the background score with various hit songs don't know what they've been missing.
