Elsie M. Petite

12/28/1931-11/28/2024

Born in Winthrop Washington, Elsie moved to Seattle with her Mother at age fourteen and went to Franklin High School. She found years of employment as a secretary for various firms in downtown Seattle. Later she met Dale Petite and they lived together in Seward Park neighborhood before moving to Greenlake where she remained after his passing.

She was one of five children, three girls and two boys and Elsie was the youngest and last surviving of her siblings. Her Father was the village blacksmith, the family lived in a farm and were sustained by growing their own food alongside a single cow. They made ends meet and survived without electricity. These were different times but they got through this period of struggle.

Elsie was a big part in starting The Friends Of Seattle Public Library in which she was an active volunteer for many years. She played the harpsichord at home and was fond of her cats and her book collection that filled her walls.

She was an intellectual that throughly enjoyed being an avid reader and supporter of public television. Many conversations with a cup of tea centered around art, philosophy, life, and of course books.

May her spirit soar above the clouds from here to eternity.

We love you Auntie Elsie!
