I am sure that I will be with Elsie again. She may even meet me at the gates to heaven

March 29, 2012

In about 1964, shortly after my husband's family moved form New York City to Edmonton to serve the German and English congregations at Trinity Lutheran, they were invited by the Ralph Stebner family to come for supper. It was a wonderful time & the meal was memorable because of a delightful surprise: the meat was wild duck, shot by Uncle Ralph & prepared by Aunt Elza. Being city folk they got a real taste of the Canadian prairies...food & hospitality & they loved it. Reflecting on this now I'm thinking that it probably shed a better light on me, a niece, perhaps even improved my chances with their son Reiny. I mean everyone benefits from a good family name!
Sincere sympathies to all family members.

Many years ago my parents were good friends of Elsie and Rudolph, having met them when they resided in Bloomsbury. I recall Elsie as a kind and gentle lady.
With sincere sympathy,

Elsie was well-loved and will always have a special place in our hearts. She lived for family and despite some tragic losses in the past,... was able to keep her loving nature and raise a prosperous and productive family. She was like a surrogate grandmother to me for over 50 years. She had a wonderful way of engaging children and making them feel special. A more loving and thoughtful person did not exist. If there is a heaven – that is where she will surely be.

We will love you forever, Grammie. Thank you for 96 years of sharing your love, patience and kindness. You brightened the lives of all who knew you, especially your grandchildren. We were so fortunate to have you in our lives and to teach us how to love God and family.

Elsie was my dear friend for 52 years and I will miss her so much.
I feel so blessed to have had her and her loving family in my life and my family's life all these years.
Her strong Christian faith influenced how she lived her earthly life and am sure that in her heavenly home she is an angel. I love you Elsie and God loves you too.

Although I won't be able to attend the funeral, my thoughts are with the family. She was a kind and gracious lady and I will always remember several weeks in September, 1972, when we toured Southern England and Wales together.

Grammie was a lovely and gracious lady; she has left her family a legacy in the example she set in her steadfast faith, the great family times spent at Pigeon Lake at her cabin and the beautiful snowflakes she gave as gifts. We will all miss you Grammie; God loves you and we do too!

Elsie was always quick to add a word of encouragement and showed a loving interest in all the people around her. She added kindness to any room she entered
