So sorry to hear the sad news, your mom was the "Best".
My mother used to tell me stories of when your mom had the restaurant on Taunton Avenue, She and Elsie were young girls, helping to set up the new restaurant.
Mom passed in 2007, she'll be glad to see her "Old friend" again.

Mother's No Longer With Us
In tears we saw you sinking,
And watched you pass away.
Our hearts were almost broken,
We wanted you to stay.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.
If Roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
Don't think of her as gone away
Her journey's just begun
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know, today
Now nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost.
With Deepest Condolences

Donna & Stevie, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Elsie will always be remembered for her Young China days, I will forever remember Elsie not only for the resturant, but for many years of picking us up from swiming lessons, then our chow mein sandwiches, listening to the juke box in your house, and just playing as kids with Cheryl and myself. I often remember the day your father passed, never quite understanding why they opened the back door of the herse and the front door of your house, but Nana said it was your custom so I asked no more. Elsie will always be in my heart. I pray that you both find comfort in the many lives your mother touched throughout her lifetime. May she rest in peace.

To the Yan family and friends my sincerest sympathy on your loss. Did not know Elsie personally but feel like I did since I was a frequent customer of Young China both eat-in and take-out. It still is one of our first stops upon returning to RI (although not as good as when she was there). Hopefully the memories she left will keep her in your hearts always.
