ST. ALBANS - Elva H. Johnston, 84, died Feb. 28, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 31, 1929, in Wenona, N.C., a daughter of Staton and Nancy (Berry) Harris. She grew up in North Carolina and resided in Virginia after she was married. She recently relocated to Maine to live with her granddaughter Patty.
Elva was a LPN and retired from Portsmouth General Hospital. She attended the Oceana Church of Christ in Virginia. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, reading, Celtic music, dining at the Golden Corral restaurant, John Wayne and "puppy" movies.
She is survived by a son, Harry Johnston Jr., of Delaware; a sister, Marlaine Tyree, of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Patty and husband Chuck Gallison, of St. Albans, Pam and husband Doug Morong, of Tennessee, Colleen Butera, of Stetson, Maureen and husband Larry Peacock, of Tennessee, Edward and wife Knolene Johnston, of Maryland, Christa and husband Ray McAleer, of Florida, and James and wife Lisa Mann, of Virginia; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Loughry, of Stetson; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Harris, of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Johnston Sr.; and daughters Frances Johnston and Jeanine Mann.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8 at St. Albans Union Church, with the Rev. Leonard Reiss officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
